Default PSA as We Move Into Spring

Everyone might be aware of this and it might be old news but I figured I would put it out there for the SCducks masses...

There are a couple of guys who Livestream weather alerts, analysis, etc. on YouTube. They do a heck of a lot better job than the weather channel and I would say better than local during severe weather.

No commercial breaks, no bs and they are usually calling tornado warnings/confirmed tornados several minutes before the NWS can get the warning out to the public. The two that I will usually watch when weather is coming through are:

    - Max Velocity - Severe Weather Center

    - Ryan Hall, Y'all

Looks like Max Velocity is already live and i bet he will be for the rest of the day for this weather in Ark/Missouri.

I watch Ryan hall. Good stuff. They have me paying much more attention on a large scale than local weather. I hardly look at it.

    Ryan hall is awesome.

I was watching him during one of the Tropical Storms that hit us last year and he called a tornado warning right on top of the house before it actually hit. I watched the band of wind and rain coming at us and then the tornado warnings went off on our phones. Thank God it didn’t touch down and no damage. I watch him religiously now.

I'm not "concerned about the weather" to that degree years old yet.

haha, I was actually terrified of storms and bad weather throughout my childhood due to a couple of experiences that I went through. The biggest thing I found that helped was to research and learn as much as I could about it. The more I learned about the weather, the less I feared it. Now as an adult its more of a fascination for me, but I still like to stay aware of things when a storm system is rolling through.

I understand that. My mother is terrified of everything she can't control. Not scared. Terrified. Bees. Storms. Twisters. People. Plans that change. Plans that don't change. Everything. She projects those fears to my kids also. I do my best to set them straight but then it turns into a "who do you trust" thing with them. As a result one of my sons is scared to death of storms. One session of hiding in the bathtub with my mom during a spring thunderstorm while my wife and I were out to eat was all it took. There wasn't even a 'nader warning. Just some wind and rain but she convinced them Helen Hunt was just around the corner and flying cows were on the way. He's 9 now and every time he hears thunder he thinks death is imminent and starts heading downstairs to seek shelter. "Where you goin'?" "I heard thunder. I'm out."

I'll share these links with him.

The old lady that helped raise me would make us sit on the couch and be quiet whenever there was a thunderstorm because that was God talking and we were supposed to be listening.

Be sure to hang up your cell phone or the lightning will come thru it.
And NEVER take a bath during a thunderstorm

    Ryan Hall is good.

If you Facebook, South Carolina Weather ran by Chris Jackson usually does a good thorough write up for major severe weather events or snow, etc.
