fair enough. i still say that sentiment is prevalent in general and not healthy for a good solution. i think the solutions are different for public and private yet intricately related.

Ephesians 2 : 8-9
Job 19:25-27 (NKJV): For I know that my Redeemer lives, And He shall stand at last on the earth; And after my skin is destroyed, this I know, That in my flesh I shall see God
The analogy is perfect. Life ain't fair. The Kennedy boys are born with more money than me. Jase Robertson was born with the ability to duck hunt for a living. Life ain't fair. The beauty of America and Capitalism is that if I want what they've got, the only thing that's stopping me is me.

RUBBERHEAD*: the only thing that's stopping me is me.
In the real world the simplistic stupidity of that "anybody can do it" point of view has always made be shake my head and laugh.... there are FARRRRRRRR too many other circumstances that play in than "just me".

"laisssez faire" capitalism for sure

There are too many examples that prove otherwise. One of my favorites:
How about Takahiro Omori? Born in Japan spoke very little english but wanted to be the world's greatest bass fisherman. Got on a plane with $2,000 in his pocket. 15 years later he wins with Bass Master Classic. God Bless America.

you crack me up- for every one of those stories there are 100 good folks bustin their asses and unable to catch the breaks.... it's just life.

Job 19:25-27 (NKJV): For I know that my Redeemer lives, And He shall stand at last on the earth; And after my skin is destroyed, this I know, That in my flesh I shall see God
i'd whif on all three OR i'd have forgotten to re-load after the last draw of woodies and go "bang!"- get feathers and then click!!!
i know my luck![]()
What keeps these aflatoxins I read about in the other thread (KILLING QUAIL) from affecting the corn ponds? I would think the water could rise and fall wetting the bait.

we have discussed this topic several times.
I find the notion that there is a difference between putting water on corn and putting corn on water as obsurd as the notion that a giant elusive ape man lives in the NW corner of North America.
JAB will tell you baiting is unfair because it draws ducks to a slaughter zone.
I whole heartedly agree.
We just happen to differ in opinions a little.
He seems to think a 50 acre slaughter zone is ok, but a 1/2 acre slaughter zone is an unfair advantage.
To me, the size of the zone is irrelavant.
baiting is baiting is baiting.
I do not harbor any negative will regarding impoundments planted with corn.
I hunt over flooded corn a few times each season.
I enjoy it, but I have much more satisfaction decoying ducks in a wild setting.
I am not in favor of public baiting.
I think its bad form.
I am, however, an advocate for replenishing South Carolina's public hunting areas with a food source capable of offering some incentive for waterfowl to utilize.
Be proactive about improving public waterfowl habitat in South Carolina. It's not going to happen by itself, and our help is needed. We have the potential to winter thousands of waterfowl on public grounds if we fight for it.
The problem with the "pour corn to feed the ducks" argument is it would largely be counterproductive. Why? B/c all the rubberheads pouring corn wouldn't let the ducks rest long enough to eat it...they'd shoot their new baited holes morning and evening. Do you think the landowner who works his tail off (and his wallet) to get ducks shoots them every day? Not hardly...
And the whole socialist angle to this is very interesting...on the one hand, we've got a bunch of gun-toting, Obama-hating, Dixie-singing conservatives...but on the other, we've got a bunch of folks who are jealous of the "rich" man and want the gub'ment to help them get their share...

if you can meet with triumph and disaster and treat those two imposters just the same.....
Could you imagine just how much corn would be poured out. You would concentrate alot of ducks in one hole if you are the only one baiting. But if everyone was doing it.....
As I think Trad said, if the population can stand X number killed what difference does it make how or where they are killed? Oh, wait a minute. If there is a good food source on public land the ducks will come to it from....... I understand now.
Become one with nature then marinate it.
So there would be so much corn out there that all the rubberheads couldn't possibly shoot over it every day of the season? I disagree. Even if they let them rest for a few days, it would be nothing like a landowner who lets them rest the MAJORITY of the season.
And, why take the easy way out and bait? Why not just work harder, smarter, or both and buy your own piece of property?
