Looks like they want to make some changes and want a sample size of public opinion to back it up.

I all but quit deer hunting anymore, but are the issue still the same? Renegades trespassing to get a deer or recover their dogs?

If I recall they made it illegal to basically stand along a public road while holding a gun, but with open carry laws seems that would negate that rule.

I support dog hunting of deer. That being said, the complete lack of any self-awareness amongst dog hunters is astounding. In years I've only had one even apologize for having his dogs run through my still hunt. The other 99% seem indifferent at best or entitled at worst.

    Done.

I'm not sure if mandating E collars with GPS tracking will suffice but it seems those who do it right have control of their dogs.

I think dog hunting is cool if you control your dogs. Want to watch something that will make you lose your mind, go watch the viral video of the man running his dogs for bears. “Per the state, I am in control of my dogs” is what he stated I believe. Thinking you have the right to run your dogs on someone else’s private property for any reason is baffling to me.

The dog hunters that I encounter near me are analogous to standing on Washington Road, driving your ball over the fence into Augusta National, and getting in a cool smooth 18 when you climb the fence to retrieve it.

The squeaky wheel ain't getting dick.

An example. Banks Construction was hired to pave our street. Cut 3" down and repave. They put 10" on top of what we had. Major flooding implications. We called them on it. They had to come back and cut it all out and do it right.

One call to one Senator and they are getting paid for all of it...

Oh, and the squeaky wheel? He got 10 feet of his pea gravel driveway and surrounding bricks paved over with black asphalt...

    Slippery slope. In my opinion.

I’m neither for it nor against it. Doing it the right way is the only way to do anything. That’s the issue that is hardest to combat. Legislation won’t solve that.

Well. legislation WILL provide some deterrents to the problem... of which we currently have NONE. I want some damn accountability and the only thing the lawbreakers seem to understand is fines/money.

We already have trespassing laws and disturbing a lawful hunt charge. What more do you want? Other than a DNR that doesn’t do shit. If it were $1000 trespass fee per dog or individual retrieving dogs and max fine for disturbing a lawful hunt for each person that was trying to still hunt and it couldn’t get reduced or thrown out in court, shit would stop. 3rd offense gets you an arrest and 45 days in jail. Trespassing to hunt anything else gets your ass in a sling. What’s different fir dog hunters doing same? It HAS to come from the top in DNR. Lord knows they don’t have to be asked twice to hide to try and catch you or put trailcams on your property or co e on your property with no suspicion of anything to check out you and your shit. Yet dog hunters routinely get a pass???!! WHY!!? So let’s ask DNR WT ACTUAL F is going on before we do some dumb shit surveys and make up more rules for hunting. Let’s start there.

What are the chances of this having unforeseen repercussions and somehow spilling over and affecting other styles of hound hunting?

I've never deer hunted with dogs, so I have no opinion on it, but I do HATE trespassing.

I have a serious question that I really don't know the answer to. Do these renegade dog hunters also run their dogs "accidentally" on public land?? I would imagine doing that would come with serious fines and worse. IMO, whatever they'd get on public...they should get on private.

Ok I will bite on this thread as well not to beat a dead horse but... those of us that have made changes are all for the ones breaking laws and not having control of their dogs to be held accountable.

Please don't suggest acreage limits. (This is NOT the fix)

Food for thought and you base your suggestion/opinion off of it.

    Holding dog men accountable #1

Be careful how you word your suggestion.

Wrong laws will have ahitty dog men only turn loose dogs Noone but owner can catch so someone can't get identification off collar

Ok so identify with numbers ( the bad. Someone that hates dog hunting will put numbers on dogs that they have see. In area whether hunting correctly or not and try to pin off bad behavior on someone that may or maynot be the problem.)

As far as type of dogs to be used. Every area is different. No 1 size fits all.
Some areas are high waters and require hounds to be effective
Other areas have high land and can use smaller breed dogs.

We personally don't allow Fox hounds due to our terrain. 1 advantage to fox hound breed is they train to collar fairly easily.

Those of you that have issues with dog hunters every year I hate it more than you do. They are going to have what I enjoy doing taken away. Anyone need input or have questions I will gladly talk to you via phone and let you know what changes we made and what works for us. (Just because it works for us doesn't mean it will work for another club in exact same way)

I hunt some property in chesterfield county and for years I had problems with dogs that were a couple of miles from where they were supposed to be. They finally lost their lease. I understand some do it right but my experience with dog hunters was bad.

    None.

The last changes made to the Renegade Hunter act were to only increase penalties to the private land owners who bother a dog on their property. No additional restrictions for the renegade hunter.

These changes were made in a private meeting that consisted of a dog hunter, a game warden, and Yancy McGill, a pro-dog-hunter legislator from Kingstree.

Anybody wonder why the legislation came out like it did?

Don’t let your dogs off of the property where you have rights, don’t trespass, and don’t line the highway in orange hoodies, and I’ll get back to minding my own bidness.

    - Acreage Limits for dog hunting (200 acres, Unless Fenced in). It costs about 10k to fence in 250 acres. The majority of blocks smaller than this aren’t suitable to run dogs through, in today’s standards. This is where the majority of problems occur.

    - Each piece of property to be registered as “Dog Hunting”, which can be revoked at discretion of SCDNR. This puts club leadership in a position to police their own.

    - Each person participating in a dog hunt needs to have a Dog Hunting License. Whether it be walking, standing, turning loose dogs, or taking pictures. After the Club or Parcel being registered, this makes the individual put skin in the game, and also gives Law Enforcement something to revoke. Associated fees will pay for paperwork on the SCDNR end.

    - Acreage Limit on still hunting with a firearm. (20 Acres. Anything else is simply mooching off of a larger neighbor). This gripes me way worse than some piece of trash running dogs through me.. It’s also dangerous, as most of the stands on small parcels are on the property line..

End of the day, Rogue dog hunting doesn’t take anything from your property, anymore than a farmer that shoots 250 in the summer, or a guy and his boyfriend with 8 acres that kills 8 bucks and 3 does off of it.

It’s still gay af though… I want my dogs getting off of the property to be such a rarity, that my neighbor is genuinely shocked and offers help.

If we cut some of the key denominators and make everyone have skin in the game, running hounds would have zero adversaries in the hunting world.. Of course, minus the armchair quarterback moondicks, that think it’s unethical and normally kill 2-3 deer every decade..

So up yours, y’all’s, and youins..
