    Default Getting serious at SRS

The USDA-FS SRS intends to procure contractor support for wild hog control operations on the Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site (SRS), a 198,000-acre controlled federal facility in South Carolina. The contractor shall provide all labor, equipment, and materials necessary to capture and dispatch wild hogs (Sus scrofa) using various trap systems, with optional use of trained dog packs during periods approved by the Government. All trapping and removal activities will occur within designated areas of the SRS as directed by the Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR). Certain locations, including contamination zones, high-security areas, and periodically restricted training areas such as the Advanced Tactical Training Area (ATTA), will be off limits or require prior coordination for access. Specific work locations, timing, and methods will be determined by the COR.
This BPA is intended to establish a multiple award BPA with three vendors who will perform all hog‑removal work on the Savannah River Site located in South Carolina for the full five‑year period of performance. Awarded Contractors will perform the requirements identified in Attachment 1, Statement of Work. BPAs will be established for a 5-year period (1 Oct 2026 – 30 Sep 2031) with 5 ordering periods identified in Attacement2, Schedule of Items. Contractors may be asked to provide pricing for similar work throughout South Carolina on Forest Service Lands.

Nothing like taking all the incentive out of the contract, to doom it to failure or mediocrity...

I’d say 100k a year to kill pigs is pretty good incentive- depending on what the per pig price is. And if that’s 100k per contractor or 100k total for all three contractors.
If it were 100k max per contractor, at $100 a pig, that’s 2-3 pigs a day, (20 a week)- EVERYDAY- (or week) for a year. Thats a pretty tall order.

The Texans and a few folks in Cali are getting the desired result using Kaput brand hog killer.

It's Warfarin and/ or Sodium Nitrate. Kills em pretty damn well evidently. Turns the meat and guts a nice shade of Blue so no one eats one by accident. It takes some planning and work to get the by- kill on deer and other beneficial animals minimized.

I know of a large acreage Ranch in South Texas that has damn near eradicated their swine problems. Thousands of them - gone. Warfarin is of course an anticoagulant.. Not a pretty way to die, but it is working.

This is nothing new. They’ve been doing it for years. One of my friends that also works out here had one of the contracts previously.

Hogs can be like that bike in Friday. They can be both of ours, but you keep em at your house.

Everything you need can be shipped to your house. It’s about $1000 to get started. The feeder is the most expensive part. Door has to weigh at least 17 pounds. Theirs is like $900ish.

They need to hire whoever wiped the deer out at Edisto. It went from wild kingdom to I haven't seen a deer in months over a 2 year period. Wouldn't believe it even possible if I hadn't seent it with my own eyes.

That's sad, we are headed to Edisto next week and always one of our favorite past times to ride the golf cart with the kids and look for deer after supper. Pretty sure we still saw a good many last year.
