It has to be a Beretta. Ideally I could use it for both targets and birds. Let's say the budget is (up to) $7,500. Go.

Why does it have to be a beretta? I ask bc some people can shoot a beretta auto well but shoot a citori better than a silver pidgeon.

I’d find a used Beretta 686
I picked one up for 700 bucks a while back
Deals can be found if you keep your eyes open
Heckuva lot of options in that price range if you will back off the Beretta requirement just a bit...
I love a Beretta and it would be my #1 recommendation for a semi auto, but I wouldn't pigeon hole myself to just that make if I was working with a $7,500 budget.
You should lower your budget to $6k, and plan to get two...I've shot clays with you many times and you're just not ready for a $7,500 gun...haha
I've never owned one but I think a crossover field/sporter is worse than shooting clays with field gun or birds with a sporter.
I love the triggers on all my Citori guns but I've never shot a Beretta. Mechanical vs. Inertia triggers is a non-issue especially for a sporting gun.
Make sure you lay hands on the gun before dropping the cash. Things like a thick palm swell would drive me crazy but others love them. An adjustable comb might help you a lot. The fore end matters more than most realize, especially on clays.
Don't take the bead off of it - that's just cliche bad advice (my opinion).
I assume you're looking for a 12 gauge - 8lbs minimum. You're a big guy, you might even want one a little heavier.
Prince of Wales grips are beautiful - whoops, sorry Beretta doesn't offer those...

In the Beretta line I would either stretch it to a DT11 or step down to a 694. If you want to use it for a sporting clays gun, do yourself a favor and get 32 inch barrels.
I'm willing to consider manufacturers other than Beretta. I just trust Beretta and love the three I have so I'm admittedly biased.
I've shot a couple of Citoris and a Zoli. The Citoris are nice for sure, as was the Zoli.
And you're correct, Smitch. I'll certainly put my hands on several before I make a decision.

Then you should find a gun with enough left over for drop in Briley tubes for sub gauges and be done. Otherwise I’d get a nice combo gun with 20 and 28 gauge barrels. Shoot clays and ducks with what you have. You’ll put the 12 down if you do that, except for sporting clays or trap. Don’t knkw how serious you are in that space?

If you are looking at others, you need to look at Kolar. American made. Built to last a lifetime and you can't beat the customer service.
If stuck on Beretta get a diamond pigeon and call it a day.
Are you buying a 20 or 12?
Lots of options that don't start with a B, let us know what you end up with.
I'm saving pennies for a Longthorne.
Bought a left hand Citori in December. Beautiful gun and very pleased with it. My first ou.
And some of y'all say I have issues...
I've looked at some "nice" shotguns just because they're pretty damn sexy with their bluing and fancy wood & engravings.
I could never...

If that's all you want to spend, then Beretta.. I keep talking myself out of a dt11. I own a few double barrel Berettas, 2 686s. I like them. It's about as ritzy as I need to be, my guns mostly shoot birds. I've shot enough clays in my life, and cannot be engulfed with tournament clays. I have enough hobbies.
Piece of junk. A buddy of mine accepted one as part of a sponsorship. He fought with that thing for 6 months and finally gave it back. He shoots a DT11 now, which is what he started with. Another friend bought one and it spent more time in the shop than he shot. He sold it. Cool idea but just not very durable.
Buy a Silver Pigeon with 30-32” barrels and go shoot clays or anything else. Unless you’re going to be a tourney player, it’ll bust clays on every stand at Backwoods or any other clays range for about the rest of your life, spend the rest on shells.
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.
