First stop of this years turkey tour. I linked up with a good friend and colleague from Louisiana who have a great farm near the Delta just over into Mississippi. They are huge deer hunters but have never chased turkeys. I knew going in that this place was going to be full of birds, but what we found was unreal. I stopped counting after about 80 gobbles, before the sun was even up. We were all the way on one side of the farm and there is no telling how many were on the other side we couldn't hear over the racket these birds were making. The most gobbles I have ever heard on a single hunt, it was insane. The actual hunt only lasted about 15 minutes before 3 toms and a hen found their way into the field. I was holding the video camera but my buddy and his brother were able to double up on their first ever birds. It was a bit hairy, turning into a duck shoot with a couple misses, but they were able to knock them down. With their excitement and now wanting to hunt more this season, I decided I didn't need to pull the trigger and take any more birds off the farm so they could continue to hunt this year (Self-imposed limit of 4 birds for the farm this season) and we spent the next days fishing the cow ponds and watching birds strut around in the fields.
Besides the hunting we had some awesome Cajun food, and I brought some SC with me and did a Boston Butt with some Shealy's BBQ sauce for them. A great time with some good friends.MISSISSIPPI.jpg
