    Default No turkeys in Mississippi

First stop of this years turkey tour. I linked up with a good friend and colleague from Louisiana who have a great farm near the Delta just over into Mississippi. They are huge deer hunters but have never chased turkeys. I knew going in that this place was going to be full of birds, but what we found was unreal. I stopped counting after about 80 gobbles, before the sun was even up. We were all the way on one side of the farm and there is no telling how many were on the other side we couldn't hear over the racket these birds were making. The most gobbles I have ever heard on a single hunt, it was insane. The actual hunt only lasted about 15 minutes before 3 toms and a hen found their way into the field. I was holding the video camera but my buddy and his brother were able to double up on their first ever birds. It was a bit hairy, turning into a duck shoot with a couple misses, but they were able to knock them down. With their excitement and now wanting to hunt more this season, I decided I didn't need to pull the trigger and take any more birds off the farm so they could continue to hunt this year (Self-imposed limit of 4 birds for the farm this season) and we spent the next days fishing the cow ponds and watching birds strut around in the fields.

Besides the hunting we had some awesome Cajun food, and I brought some SC with me and did a Boston Butt with some Shealy's BBQ sauce for them. A great time with some good friends.MISSISSIPPI.jpg

hold on second...let me get this straight

You drove all the way to Mississippi to hunt a property infested with turkeys only to get goat roped into guiding thing 1 and thing 2 who in return shot the poor bastards to pieces, threw them in a pond, and talked you into dressing like them? Then in return told you that you had to settle for pond fishing because they were going to take things into their own hands and kill the last two because of a last minute property quota they dreamed up for turkeys they obviously didn't know existed? I'd find new friends.

I wonder why I keep getting the, "we used to have turkeys here, but I killed 20 over 4 seasons and now IDK why we don't have anymore" statements. I was the one who advised them not to take more than 4. Being a land broker I see a lot of properties, and I've never seen one as well taken care of or managed as well as this one, and already are taking steps to improve it next year specifically for turkeys. I have a feeling ill be back there year over year and itll be eat up with them.

Our company Partners with SITKA gear accounts for the matching outfits. @ 2th Ill show you some pics of the deer on this farm and you'll understand why they don't turkey hunt.

At least you're smiling in the pic. Most people are either too badass or jusr seem to be disgruntled in their hunting photos. This is supposed to be fun!

I still think it’s hilarious that you confiscated the hat back from the guy that got caught baiting
