I like it. I could see the boat limit going up to 3. I never understood why we could keep 15in fish. 2 or 3 24in fish makes a nice meal.

Que the bait fisherman coming on here to bitch about gov regulations. I hate the red snapper bullshit and hopefully it gets changed because there are a shit ton of them. If the spot tails are in trouble make it 2 a day and move on.

I can load the boat on spot tails... I cannot imagine two fish per person would hurt the resource. CHS certainly gets infinitely more pressure than BFT or Gtown - make the restrictions for Chucktown since they seem to be the problem.

It’s been 2 per person for some years now and the numbers are down…

If your doctor kept on trying to give you bandaids and ibuprofen for a metastasizing tumor, you would fire him. Yet here we are again, restricting harvest thinking that it will solve the issue. Never mind the laundry list of other glaring issues that never get addressed. Im not picking fun particlarly at redfish as my mind goes to wild turkey and waterfowl regs.

Never figured out why people get so hung up on bass when there are whiting, spots, and grunts galore...

Yup. Much better fish to eat out there for sure. I do however, love watching my 6 and 4 year old kids get worked over by some spot tails…
I’ll also never understand the guy that scoffs at trying to better fish stocks but bitches about his neighbor shooting a 2 year old buck because it’s not “mature” and would have been better next year..

I am sure there are multiple factors at play here… but the average person doesn’t even have time to affect population levels one way or another. I like to fish. Generally too busy to go as much as I would like. I am not for overregulation but the average working person probably fishes 2-4x/mo if that? Look at the above average and commercial fisheries.
Of those average fisherman, how many are regularly keeping redfish?

Introduced by Senator Campsen. That means it goest to his committee where it will pass and make it to the senate floor.

But could it be better with proper management? It’s the same principle, just a viewpoint with a different priority.

Most people I know only keep a few red drum anyway, if any.
I'll keep one if it's not going to make a healthy release but there are better options for the table.

Flounder population has done well following the regs a few years ago.

A lot of science goes into regulation changes.

I am excited for and hope we get the approval for a 2 month snapper season as proposed even with the reporting.

I see both sides of the fence on reporting, on one hand it's a pain and intrusive. On the other hand it's actual data versus their best guess which is how the ACL is currently calculated.

I’m ok with it. Don’t love but if it’s what the fishery needs so be it. I propose a lottery for dolphin harvest tags. A reduction in the dolphin population would do wonders for the spottail population, and what are dolphins good for any way.

More spot tails are killed in the summer months with people stressing out breeder fish, than the handful kept to consume.

Absolutely, and the fishing guides and redfish tournaments. We took the kids to the one in Gtown in the fall and you can’t convince me all the fish in the tank by the stage lived. They were the most beat up pathetic looking spottails you’ve ever seen.

But ask the fishing guides it’s all the evil giggers out there destroying the populations. They are convinced that beating on them with clients everyday is actually helping the situation. Far more fish are released dead or die from mishandling/stress than end up in a cooler for consumption in my opinion.

These fish add up for sure....but you can only do so much to regulate releases without upending the fishery, so you have to manage the harvest. 90%+ of captured reds are released...even in the slot.
