    Default 2004 Ford Ranger 3.0

Recently acquired a 2004 Ford Ranger 3.0 137xxx for dirt cheap. It’s as basic as they come but a decent running truck. I’ve been driving it regularly but it has a demon.

For no rhyme or reason, it will lose all power while driving. I lose brakes, power steering, etc. I can pull over, cut the key off, cut it back on, and it will just turn over. I can let it sit for 3 minutes to 30 minutes and it will start right back up.

It isn’t throwing any codes during any of this. Fuel system seems to be working like it should.

    Any ideas?

To add, it has been sitting for a year. The fella that had it wouldn’t ever sell it to me but gave it to his brother. His brother let it sit for a year and then decided to sell it for $500. He never drove it. Never even registered it.

Check the PCM and main relay. Also check for corroded grounds and or battery cables.

You will find a lot of electrical was discontinued for those trucks. Dorman makes some aftermarket but I wouldn’t buy anything electrical made from Dorman.

    You the man.

Eventually I’ll get off my ass and put the rear end back together in the f150 but until then, I’ll fight these demons.

Had a similar situation with an older Tahoe. Aggravating as all get out. Took me hours on the side of the road to finally find it. Electrical loom would swing and hit the exhaust manifold. Eventually burned through and every time it hit metal thereafter, the truck would die.

Ha. I’m hoping it won’t be broke by the weekend.

As of now, probably unless a deal that is too good to be true comes up.

I did fix the problem. Wire is shorting out between the drivers side door and the fuse box.

We ran a power wire on a toggle switch.
