Bog, I'll have to recheck with binoculars next time. Maybe I have them wrong, but I've looked close before. They always seem slimmer than the grosbeaks, too. I thought I saw an oriole two weeks ago while turkey hunting. Seemed odd seeing a towhee up in a small tree top, but he didn't have any white on his chest. My mom tries for orioles in Lexington but hasn't ever had any luck.
Most people don't look or listen twice when they see or hear a songbird. A lot have migrations that rival or exceed our ducks and are only here seasonally. I'm no where near "birder" level of nerding out, but it's fascinating to me. Surprising that most outdoorsmen aren't interested.
