I'm more worried about the looters in the aftermath than the gougers. Been a lot of neighbor helping neighbor around here. One thing is for sure, you find out who your friends are when staring down the barrel of one of these storms. Hoping that it isn't too bad, I can deal with the rain but these damn pines around make the wind the biggest issue.

I'll start a thread when it comes in and try to give updates as long as I can get service.
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Gouging: This morning I topped off my tank and was surprised the Circle K was still the same price as it was Monday, then I looked around at the other two stations on the same corner had gone up $.15+. Not exactly gouging, but I will remember it in the future when purchasing fuel. Maybe that is the argument for larger outfits is that they are less likely to pull some bullsh!t. In Florence, a very old fmaily owned hardware store was the only place prosecuted for gouging during Hugo. They still argue that they were right in doing so. BTW this local store always has one side of their sign with a bible verse on it at all times. MG

Does G'Town county have re-entry passes or decals for residents? NMB tried that for a very short while when we had three named storms in one year in the 00's. MG

You know what gets me MG is that it will likely be 10 cents a litre higher up here this time tomorrow than it was this AM.

Hugo gave me an education that I will never forget so I get real nervous with these things. That is the scariest thing I have ever been through, even worse than when the Indians jumped the train I was on at the tweetsie Rail Road. 135 MPH winds will blow your pants off.

    Good Afternoon,

Hurricane Florence, at 1100 today, was 550 miles ESE of Myrtle Beach tracking NW at 15 mph with 130 mph winds. Florence is a 275 mile wide cyclone with a well defined eyewall complex, and a healthy outflow channel aloft from the northern half of the storm. Cloud top temperatures are fluctuating, indicating a less than perfect environment to maintain the current Category 4 intensity. In the next 24 hours Florence will encounter an ocean pocket of high heat content that could briefly support intensification to a 145 mph hurricane. Promises, promises.

Florence continues NW today and tomorrow reaching a point 40 miles offshore the south coast of NC before sunrise Friday. Florence begins a painfully slow turn to the west and will creep towards North Myrtle Beach at a blazing 2.7 mph during the day Friday. During this slow west crawl on Friday, Florence will be over shallow shelf waters and will upwell cooler water in accordance with the you-can't-dig-a-hole-in-the-ocean theory. Upwelling reduces the intensity of Florence to 75 mph prior to a North Myrtle Beach landfall at 5 PM Saturday.

Over land Florence will weaken rapidly to a tropical storm Saturday night over Orangeburg. Early Monday morning, Florence rapidly degrades to a soggy depression upon reaching northern Oconee county. As with all decaying tropical cyclones, there will be copious precipitation. Based on the current track, conservative rainfall amounts range from 10-15 inches over the Pee Dee to 4-6 inches over the CSRA. Your mileage may vary. Individual spiral bands could deliver higher amounts of rainfall, in addition to 40-50 mph wind gusts.

TS Isaac direct to Caribbean. Hurricane Helene fish storm.

Not that I know of. I've ridden all of them out since I've been here. I don't want to leave, I want to get busy on the clean up and helping people get their lives back to normal. We usually have power restored somewhat quickly with the water treatment plant, elementary and high schools right down the road so that helps. Add to that my house is 24' above sea level, has a lot of angles to deflect wind, casement windows and is over-framed, I'll be OK. I have a lot of elderly neighbors that are riding it out too, hate to be away and they need assistance.
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Not trying to be funny but any time I see this it's a huge 'buyer beware' for me. Just have not had good experiences in dealing with people who brandish that stuff.
