Damn I feel so humble about this now knowing the significance of the band. Jerk String brought him in and shot about a foot off the water, it was oh so beautiful. When I got to it, before I picked it up, I said "watch this dang thing be banded", and there it was. With that, I've never had my breathe leave my body like it did this morning. This is my 4th in 4 years, and I've seen 5 decoyed and killed, with a black being the first ever big duck I've killed duck hunting. Truly appreciated of the kind gestures, and let it be known, that he will be took care of and mounted with the highest regards. Also just got done putting in the recovery information to their website, so hopefully I've done the correct recovery steps.

Maybe this should be the start of another thread so we don't jack up D's glory. But I pose the question, what would top a Jack Miner Banded Black Duck?!?! Clearly this will be unique based on personal interests. To me, nothing that I can think of accept maybe watching my son bag a Jack Miner band.

For a SC Waterfowler, there is probably no band with lower odds of encounter. I have friends in the Ohio area who have killed more than a few Miner banded birds. Close proximity to the refuge increases the odds.

I have one I killed in Jan '96 on the Georgia side of Lake Russell. Probably never see another. They are very cool indeed. Congrats on a true Grail bird.

I agree I can't think off anything for me that would top it. But like you said you already have an idea that would for you. I have no kids so this would be tops on my list for sure.

Adult blue phase Ross in terms of rarity.

For me, a simple green band and I can call it a day.

Only Miner band I have ever seen was about 12 years ago. A pair of mallads dropped into the decoys, and my dad shot the bird to his side and I shot the bird to mine. His bird was wearing a Jack Miner and mine was not. It was exciting. I can't imagine the excitement of getting an Old drake black duck wearing a worn out Miner band. congrats again.

Mine reads " God is our Refuge"

Reading that definitely made me take pause. Very special to get one.

    4. go buy several lottery tickets
    5. take off from work this day every year from now on
    6. you suck

Don't know if it would top a Jack Miner Black or be equal to but........killing a bird that I personally banded several hundred miles or states away from where I first encountered would be truly amazing.....DUs Field Hudnall did something similar with a Common Eider

When in doubt, shoot him again!

Work like it's all up to me, but pray, like it's all up to him!

Seriously. Send that one to SHANE. I know your guy is cheaper, but you can blow $100 on a meal.
