I went to one of my little wood duck swamps yesterday. For the past few years, this place has been automatic. We could easily go in and kill three limits and be out in no time. I didn't scout it any this year but would've bet the farm on the ducks being there. Surprise surprise...the beavers have been working overtime so the water was 3 feet higher and I only seen two ducks. I figured they may come in later, but a monsoon came and I left. I may have to resort in making a yellow trail around the edges.

yeah, you're right but I've got a enough places a little closer by and I don't really have to drive over 30 miles or so to kill a few woodies. That's just a place, like I said, that we like to go shoot once or twice a year that usually holds a good many wood ducks. Now if I could go see that many mallards, it would be a different story...I'd drive an hour and not think twice about it.

I am pretty lazy, but that's beside the point. I'm not driving over an hour every weekend to kill some wood ducks when I've got 3 or 4 places within a 30 minute drive that I can go to. Like I said, if I could go and see other types of ducks other than woodies, I'd go no problem. I guess I've been spoiled by having a few decent places close by to hunt.
