    Default Waxing Traps...

Is it necessary? If so do you dip in pure wax or "float" the wax in your water/dye bath and let them get coated on the way out?

Now I'm seeing black wax and white wax and I'm afraid of making the racially wrong decision here. It's a lot of pressure.

Wax them, black or white don't matter. melt it, drop temp where you only have a light smoke, drop them in for about 30 seconds, then remove and hang to dry.

    Sounds good.

And I applaud your propensity for racial harmony.

I use black wax...for not other reason than I didn't won't to use white wax. Make sure you have enough wax to fully cover the trap and chain. If you're just getting started, you'll need more than you think. I purchased a cheap pot on amzn to keep my wax in...just add a couple of pounds to it annually.

Also, this wax has a very low melting point. Do not overheat or you could find yourself in a world of trouble real quick like.

Keep a lid or piece of plywood close by to cover the pot in case you overheat the wax. I use white wax because its cheap at hobby lobby.

After watching the guy at the DNR seminar a couple of weeks ago I'm going to be using the dip next year. No dying. No boiling wax. Just clean and dip. He could do his traps in a quarter of the time it took to boil and wax them

Oh and yes dying and waxing are two separate processes. Nothing but wax in the pot when you dip the traps in it

Also, Hoosier Trappers are your friends…monotone as hell, but good info and how too.

Wax is merely to protect against rust. Just get you some full metal jacket and dip them in that. Much easier and lasts better than traditional waxing in my opinion. I also view dyeing traps as a waste of time. If your trap is bedded good and covered with dirt what difference does the color make? I will however spray paint my beaver traps.

My broke ass didn’t wax or dye ours.

We boiled with dawn dish soap, rinsed then boiled again with well water.

Levi’s left eye dominant right handed ass killed shit.

    Results may vary.

Solid bed and make sure game is using the area.

I put the wax in a pot of simmering water. Drop the traps in the hot water until they get hot, slowly pull them through the melted wax and hang up. It uses way less wax and puts only a thin coat of wax on the traps. It’s worked well for me
