We had 8 baskets on the first drag Sunday, 6 on the second.

I fished on Tuesday and saw a guy with poles in his boat when we were taking out at the ferry landing. Asked him if they did any good and he said they had a cooler full of smalls and mediums.

Only 2 baskets in the picture. Where’s the rest?

I’ve only been holin once this year, but plan on getting on it soon. I remember years back when it was just a select few doing it. Now everyone is out there.

Regulations are going to change I can guarantee it. They (dnr) aren’t sending out these surveys for no reason.

I agree. I’m sure we will see the season shortened and some kind of new shrimping permit in the next couple years. As to the increased number of people I’m sure posting articles, pictures and videos about it on the internet has nothing to do with it

Listen to your elders. Not because they are always right but because they have more experiences of being wrong.

Greedy little bastage swooped right in under the fully opened net to try and snatch a menhaden we had thrown out of the boat that was floating up top. You might not think a gull can have much expression, but he immediately knew he f'd up....My buddy in the back of boat just laughed at me when I told him "take a deep breath". He went down 38' feet and came back up with 80-100 shrimp. I dumped him out on deck, he sat there collecting his thoughts for 5-6 mins and then bid us adieu.

I have been deep holing for 40+ years and that was one of the craziest bycatch days I've ever had. Three nets worth of menhaden so damned thick I couldn't get it off the bottom by myself(could see the school swim under net on the plotter about 20-25', 4-5 good sized rays, a 22" flounder, and about a dozen bull whiting. Not to mention a cooler of shrimp in less than an hour...

That first paragraph is awesome. Very well written.

I got a 14' trawl net and doors I bought while in Mobile. I've thought about buying a commercial license and giving it a shot here but haven't gotten around to it
