Look man, it's hard enough to keep our guys in the field cutting when it's 115 degrees, throw a ratllemocassin in the mix and they'd be in the next county before we caught up to em.....

I've seen 3 rattlesnakes in the last week. The one that concerned me the most was the baby in the yard. Seems like I see the most in the spring and then in August/September.

I know spring is matting season, but why are they on the move so right now?

Working in the woods, I have always seen more venomous snakes in the fall.

Rattlesnakes breed late summer and early fall. The female stores the semen until spring.

When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home. -Tecumseh-

snakes cause a lot of heart attacks! One guy I know is so scared of them they make him pass out. He saw a rat snake in the shed and went running to the house screaming and made it half way and fell out. They found him laid out in the yard
"Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time. On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs.

Nah just one. A before and a after me tap dancing on his head. Probably looked more like river dancing though.

It’s scary out in the woods ladies.

Be sure to have all your best preventative gear on when you venture into the wilds of rural SC.
Be proactive about improving public waterfowl habitat in South Carolina. It's not going to happen by itself, and our help is needed. We have the potential to winter thousands of waterfowl on public grounds if we fight for it.

I've always heard the term "fall crawl" but it could just be that people are starting to spend more time in the woods this time of year.

One of rattlesnakes' favorite places to breed in the fall is under the seats in ladder stands.

That canebrake is looking for a squirrel. As a forester it’s way easier to walk around than mess with them. I’m usually somewhere deep in the woods on their turf where I won’t see them again. Around a house, stand, or somewhere you frequent kill away.
