You’ve been around the lakes long enough. You know what it means.
But for those that don’t....
The areas mentioned under “private developed” - that means that these areas are already developed per-say.
Quarter to half acre lots to private citizens on a 99 year renewable lease from Santee Cooper.
Very few waterfront homes, lots, or land are outright owned by private citizens on lake Marion. Those that are, are via legal agreements met, exempt from the eminent domain cases that took place in the 1930s.
Most are long term, renewable leases from the state.
My intentions were to find exactly where this new development was to take place, because as Catdaddy pointed out.... we are just about maxed out.
That said, I would love to hear from some upstate dude, who came down here on a gator tag.....once, exactly how moving some rotting timber in the dead forest will turn the booming metropolis of Eutawville, into Mount Pleasant.
Be proactive about improving public waterfowl habitat in South Carolina. It's not going to happen by itself, and our help is needed. We have the potential to winter thousands of waterfowl on public grounds if we fight for it.
