Limit = what you willing to tote out
Limit = what you willing to tote out
I could really care less about the limit being moved from 15 to 12. What does piss me off, as stated by others, is that the decision was contrary to what the Feds and the Biologist recommended. Does this board sit around thinking that they need to change things every couple of years because if things are running smoothly they might be out of a job? The lack of common sense on this decision baffles me. I believe it might be time to clean house on this board and start from scratch.
I am not suddenly interested in doves because I have ample sunflowers. I have hunted doves since I was 12 and owned, leased, and managed many dove fields. That is 44 years hunting them.
I also am not overly concerned about the limit being 12 or 15. The places I hunt mostly clubs. Birds the survive the first hunt are typically around for the next.
My concern is the disregard for the federal limit and DNR recommended 15 without any local data showing a decline.
I have expressed my concerns over their decision but do not plan to mount an effort to overturn.
I will follow-up with the survey methods. I expected some of you to say you at least saw or heard of their effort to get hunter opinions.
Either write things worth reading, or do things worth writing.
I am all for the 12 bird limit, but did not hear, receive, or read a peep about the proposal until today. Gotta love South Carolina.
First time here as well.
Y'all are honestly surprised by this? Par for the course. I am on board with DT, 12 or 15, doesn't make a difference to me, but blatant disregard for science based on how you 'feel' is not acceptable. Here is everything you need, let them know how YOU 'feel' about their decision:

Edit: HOLY SHIIIITEE..... Just pulled up their minutes from their June 16th meeting. So glad that we hunters could send a $50,134 donation to DU Canada. This is freaking mind blowing and makes me want to call them right now and cuss them up and down. Want to see for yourself? Go to XIV, Item A. I am sorry, but this is absurd and it has nothing to do with me being more of a Delta supporter. I just think that $50,134 of OUR money should be spent in OUR state. Not prairie Canada!

Here y'all go. Start making your phone calls and start your shit talking to the ears that need to hear it.
They'll tell you that money benefits SC because those ducks will migrate here.
To which I would reply...
We stop at 12 anyway
I have had a HIP permit forever and heard nothing from DNR in the form of any survey. I do take issue with the reason they "felt" it needed to be decreased but also do not really sweat the difference btwn 12 and 15 little birds.

We stopped at 12 in my field last year. Then got out and let the birds feed. Its been 12 forever, and I am OK with that. I was not contacted for the survey. Sounds like some BS going on with that.

Yea because God forbid anyone tell them about the science that shows a large majority of our migrating waterfowl come from the southern great lakes region.... Pfft. Science.... I also wonder what DUC will do with that money.
IMO there are a lot of state owned properties that could use $50K.
