Argumentative bastage.
I wasn't speculating, these were more hypotheticals.
Call the Police
Note water and shade, and continue on with your business
Enter establishment and confront the person who the dog and van belongs to
Cut the lead and take the dog with you

I've seen much worse. Looks okay to me.

If love could have saved you, you would have lived forever.
Missing you my great friend.
Water is there, shade is there. Nothing really different than an outside kennel. I would go pet him and give him a good belly rub...
E: Go add some more rope
I am smelling another poll here duh'rectly.

Doesn't seem like an enjoyable life tied to a van hell who'd wanna be tied to a rope like that every day? Not me.
The good news on this one so far, most of the voters in my opinion have some common sense, common courtesy, and enough maturity to see the forest for the trees.
The back story:
A "friend" posted this photo yesterday with a diatribe bragging about calling the police, and saying he would gladly do it again. The responses to his photo and comment were rather astounding. They ranged from stealing the dog, to tying the owner up and dragging him down the road. All comments were supportive of involving law enforcement without giving any consideration to the time the officers would have to involve in coming off of what they were doing, (like criminal investigations).
It is confounding that some place the perceived well being of an animal over the life of a person. Especially without knowing the full story.

I feel bad for the poor dog...
I will however, concede that while the situation is not ideal...however, it is apparent the owner took measures and had substantial forethought in his actions with the dog. All things considered, it is definitely a temporary thing as is apparent by the photograph. YEs the rope is tight, but also long enough that if the animal believes it is too tight, he will adjust his bedding area to directly underneath the sideview mirror. Also, if the dog believes the pavement is too hot, he has enough room to make the dirt under the bushes.

I would keep it moving. Dog has shade, water and looks pretty content.

I'll be honest. This twists my shorts. I am forever hearing that folks dont want to be treated like that.I just know I wouldn't wanna get left in that dogs spot
Question for you, since this is a duck hunting website...have you ever sent a retriever on a water retrieve in January? Since you are so concerned with how the dog "feels", I am sure you make your buddy sit on the hill while you go skinning out in the cold water so he doesnt get cold and wet. Further, if you drop a bird in the briars, be sure you dont send the pup in there. Get your own rear up in there so the pup doesnt get all scratched up.

And for God's sake, dont go putting a check cord, or shock collar on the critter.
