    I used to love it. When I was a teenager up until after I was married I used to run turtle hooks hard every summer. I mostly set hooks on the creeks, but I've caught a few in ponds and swamps.

    Best bait I ever found was a big toad frog. I'd split his head between the eyes (they bleed longer) and set him on a hook upstream of the potholes.

    Anything from gizzards to brimps to a live chicken in a basket to frogs. My papa taught me that chicken deal and it was crazy cut his head off pond side and chunk him in the basket. Had to leave about 4" out of the water or ol mud turtle would drown.
