    Default Unbalanced Lab

My lab is a 16 months old and today he, all of a sudden, started walking unbalanced and clumsy. He keeps bumping into things. I am thinking he may have gotten overheated. I have him a cool bath, am feeding him water and keeping him cool in hopes that this is all that it is. I will give it a few hours and see if it gets better before I call the vet, but wanted to see if any of you guys had any thoughts. Thanks.

Call the vet. If he's having a stroke you could possibly mitigate some of the damage. Good luck

Did he lose any use of his back legs? Has he been tested for EIC? What was he doing when this happened?

Could be bloat as well. Had a lab years ago that got blocked up and her stomach flipped. She acted like she was drunk. Glad she acted like that because that's what caused me to go to the vet which saved her life. Take him to the vet now.

Took him to the vet about 5 minutes after I posted this and ruled heat stroke out. They did blood tests, x-ray, and checked vitals. Doc said everything was fine, but more than likely a toxin in his system. They kept him overnight and are going to run fluids through him. Hopefully they will call tomorrow for me to pick him up. He stayed in a friends back yard last night and, based on information I know about the neighbor, I think he got poisoned. I just wish I knew exactly what caused this. He had no tics, no seizures, and I haven't had him tested for EIC. I will know more tomorrow thanks for y'all's input.

He was jumping up and down excited because I was about to feed him. As soon as he ate he threw up and started walking funny. Drunk acting almost. He threw up 4 times over the course of 5 hours and is at the emergency vets now, staying overnight, receiving fluids.

Unfortunately I can't do anything now because he is at the vets. I will contact them and ask them to though. Thanks for the info.

Our lab got like that once , I thought she was having a seizure. Got her to the vet and it was a severe ear infection. It had her equilibrium messed up. He deep cleaned her ears with some kind of suction device hooked to a water faucet. Some ear meds and a steroid shot she was good to go.

So here is the final out come...

I had to put Lou down this morning. He had kidney failure and was having seizures. The vet said it was most likely antifreeze. As I said before, I suspected the neighbor of foul play. After signing the euthanization papers, I went home to investigate. After finding some peculiar evidence I knocked on the neighbors door. The way he acted prompted a call to the local authorities who were able to get him to admit to feeding my lab antifreeze. He was then arrested on a felony charge. Justice is being served in the name of Lou. My last question is, does anyone know any good attorneys in the Charleston area that could assist me in this situation?

Sorry to hear this. If you are getting a lawyer involved, I would tally up every dime you have invested in it (vet bills, food, TIME training it or $ spent at the trainer, etc.)

My dog, that fella would've toted an ass whipping before any authorities got involved.
