    They're ugly. Do what sportin says. I hear oak savannahs make great quail habitat.

    I have posted my opinion and plenty of times here I won't do it again because I'm too lazy.

    Figure $100/acre and you should be good.

    As to the comments from others about waiting another year on harvesting .. why? Prices aren't gonna skyrocket and you're missing another year toward a new rotation. All this being said if you look at timber as a business not hobby. Think 15 yr pulpwood clearcuts not 40 year logs.

    Yep when I replant I’m going to plant the best trees with plans of clear cutting in 12-14.

    With that handle I should defer to you. I also need to hire you if your cost for prep, planting and maintenance is $100/acre. I thought $300 was closer to average.

    A lot depends on site prep (burn, bed, spray, etc) and then the quality of trees you put back in the dirt. If you just flat plant it without having to do anything else your initial cost shouldn't exceed $100.00 on average. Some parts of the state may be different as far as pricing.

    Why would you plant the best trees and clear-cut them in 12-14 years? The "best" trees/genetic material are geared towards future sawtimber potential. Why not hire a forester with access to the nursery PRS scores and plant an OP seedling with high volume growth and clear-cut at 12-14 years old.

    "Best" Trees - $305/M
    OP Elite Trees - $80/M
    M= per thousand
    Assuming you plant 622 TPA your initial seedling investment would be:

    "Best" Trees - $189.71/acre for seedlings
    OP Trees - $49.76/acre for seedlings

    Why would you invest an additional $140/acre in seedlings if your goals is to clear-cut at age 12-14?

    **Disclaimer - Each landowner has a different set of goals and this may not be applicable to you.

    Do y’all do much with Arbor Gen’s MCP elite or varietals? The percentages are pretty impressive as far as intensive forest management goes.

    Yeah I mean the varietals can be 1st thinned I want to say at like 11 years or so?. MCP Elites aren’t much further behind that
