Filson fabric and quality is not the same since they sold out.
McAlister is good. Browning also has a wax cloth that is nice, brown or brown and green are the only colors I have seen.

Said it before. Barbours are great for an oyster roast in october, other than that, they are as warm as a trashbag.

I've had a Barbour for the last 8 years or so and it's treated me well. I wear it hunting and for everday use. When it gets worn and beat up I just send it back to Barbour and they re-wax it for me. I can't remeber, but it's about $45.

I like some of the Filson Jackets too.

Barbour will not hold up like a filson. I would go with the filson. I have them both, and the filson is bult to last. Barbour was created for English Gentlemen, Filson was created for North American loggers. There is no comparison between the two, although I like them both.

Filson's quality had declined since they were bought out by a PE group. Barbour with the zip in vest works great for me...

That jacket right there will hold up. They make more than just the a Beaufort and a Bedale. The Solway is a thicker jacket. The coat itself is cold ass balls, and that's where you get into buying a liner. It's nice to have the option. You can take the liner out, and then you have just a little heavier raincoat.

I've always done the re-oil myself, and a can of fat doesn't cost that much. I'd send the Solway back for a little inerd work, but I'm afraid they would archive it.

I like the Filson hunting jacket, the Barbour is nice, and McCalister ain't too shabby. I wear a tan Filson light weight Moatsy gifted me nearly everyday.

It is canvas with grease imbedded in it.

The thicker the canvas, the more grease it will hold. The more grease it'll hold, the more wind and waterproof it will be. The kind of layering/liner you put under it will determine how warm you are going to be. The difference in them will be the cut, and the stitching...

In short, gauge of canvas, cut, and stitching. Those are your quantifiers.

I'm not knocking Filson. I like Filson, and I wear it. I just happen to like my Barbour also. It's about looking good people, sheesh. I swear some of ya would wear sweatpants to the store, or even pajama bottoms for that matter. People like that are the kinds that crumple up money and put it in their front pocket. Self repsect, dammit.

I have both a filson and a Barbour.

    Filson for working/hunting.

    Barbour for everyday.

    Get a liner

It makes the duck feel better about his death. I mean would you like to get killed by some slobby ass fella or a stylish gentleman.
