    Default Processor- random question

Assume that a processor advertises that it opens at 6pm on Sundays. It does not advertise a closing time. Sunset is at 5:20. Do you believe there is a reasonable amount of time the processor should stay open, or is it reasonable to just shut down once all of the deer received that night have been cleared?

I would suspect that most processors are going to shut down as soon as they have cleared the deer out that they KNOW are coming in for the night. If I thought I was going to be late for any reason I’d call ahead and see if someone would wait for me.

I would take deer until minimum 2 hours after sunset. Then we'd keep taking until they'd quit coming. We'd close when nothing was left and no one was on the way. If someone called we would wait for them.

I do think it's acceptable for a processor to close early if business isn't supporting having staff on hand.

If we start tracking one and it looks like its going to take a little time to recover I always call my guy and let him know because I value other peoples time as much as my own. If it gets late on me I can go skin it at the house and put it in my big cooler until the morning. This time of year I would think 8-830 would be a good time to shut her down if you don't have any deer left to skin.

Thanks for the insight. I'm not bent out of shape over the situation, but was curious. Facts: Shot deer at dark. Took 15 minutes to find deer. Had to walk to truck and go pick up father. Drive back. Walk all the way to deer (because some douche bag stole my damn Polaris) and then drag a 125 pound doe about half of a mile with help from my 72 year father and 8 year old son. (You may be asking why in the heck I would shoot a dang doe that far from a vehicle. The answer is that my son was begging me to shoot it and he was so excited I couldn't keep saying "no.") Once in route at close to 7, I called the processor. No answer. However, the voicemail provided the above information regarding being open in the evening, so I continued on. Got there to find a shut down shop and had to drive another hour round trip to take it elsewhere (props to Northwest in Hodges for staying open an extra 30 minutes for me to get there). Again, not bent, but was curious about what reasonable expectations should be.

I called my usually processor at 8pm a couple Sunday's ago and he was closing up but thankfully waited an extra 20-30 minutes for me to get there. Similar situation, shot a deer with the bow at dark and waited a half hour before tracking then had a hard drag that caused me to be late. 7 pm seems too early to be closing to me but I guess it depends on how busy they are that night.

Correct. More than 6, but less than 8.

You upstate boys got it rough. Down here, processors are open well into the night.

Ive never had an issue with my processor closing early but based on past threads I'm pretty sure we pay significantly less for standard processing fees than y'all slowcountry boys

Basic cut is $55.00. What are you paying?
