    Default Deer stand build plans

Does anyone have deer stand build plans for a 5x5 or 6*6 octagon shaped blind? Looking for something that I can rifle and bow hunt out of. Doesn't need to be elevated, main thing is comfort followed by easy to move whether on sleds or disassembled and reassembled. I'd prefer not to have to spend $800+++++ on a store bought one if I don't have to. Prefer to build it with the boys to build memories with.

    So whatcha got???

Don't have plans, as I personally engineer mine as I go ... But I would like to suggest to you, from my experience, that you consider a hexagon (6 sided) ... Less walls and windows or opening flaps obviously, but the real advantage is having more of an angled corner for a rifle rest ... If you're going in a 100 yd spot it's no big deal ... I've got them in 1,000 yd places, and it IS a big deal to have a 3 point rest.

I'm capable if need be, but that's mostly target range as I respect the deer more than that because there is a lot of variables at that range ... I try to limit myself in the 500-600 yd range for deer.

However, I did take a crack at a coyote last weekend at a ranged 1,160 yd ... I missed, but damn I got close..........

Thanks for the input on a hexagon.

My longest shot was around 200 yards. Once.
Everything since has been 120 yards or less. Most of them 70 yards or less.
I hunt the woods mostly but do hunt a few field stands the last few years.

That gas or phone line (whichever it is) has me envious

Do you always have that right of way that clean? Have you ever let the non plot portions grow up in briars?

I’ve always had more big bucks use the right of way when there is some thick spots where he thinks he’s hidden

It's not quite as cleaned up as it looks ... I rotate spots to plant or bushog and let various places go fallow ... There's 1,500 yds the other direction that is a lot more grown up ... It's a Dominion Gasline, and of course they come through and periodically do some maintenance that doesn't fit my plan........

Ah I gotcha. Yea I had a lease with a big metal pole power line on it and buddy it had grown up sooooo thick a pretty. Briars, blackberries, I mean it was prime. Drove by one day and the whole thing was ankle high where they had mowed it with one of those big machines. Hurt my heart
