Schools and roads you say? What road have you helped pave? Or what taxes have you slipped by us.
GHR, You seriously don't know me. I hate government much worse than you ever will. I have to live it daily.

I don't care how you feel.

I don't expect you to have any faith in government. I certainly have lost all faith in our federal government. My local govt raises taxes every year. I blast them frequently.

State legislators deal with many types of bills. Wildlife bills catch your attention. Go to the website and research my votes. Find tax increases I supported. You can't.

Keep up the good fight against increasing taxes and goverment spending/growth.

In the grand scheme, the catfish bill is not important, but I think you ALREADY know which side to be on.

Second largest highway system in the nation, yet lowest gas tax for road/bridge maintenance. SCDOT is in disarray. The crumbling infrastructure is affecting commerce more year.

Yet instead of tackling the major issues a catfish debates. It's no one legislator's fault just a dang shame a conservative state is so backwards at times.

We put $750 million new money for roads in last years budget. Start a road thread somewhere else.

This is a freshwater fishing catfish thread limited to Santee Cooper.

    Continue discussion.

The interesting thing to see is in a few years when these lakes are like a farm pond for stud catfish and bass, bream, and crappie are harder to catch, will we drop the limit of both size and creel on catfish or just reduce the amount of gamefish kept and increase the size limit.

That's over a 10 year period. That's like buying $1.50 worth of gas to drive across the state.

Payback might be 10 yrs but spending is right now.

What do you want? Increased gas tax?

Before I answer that, do you think the General Assembly has adequately funded roads and bridges the past 2 decades? If you do why is SC often ranked as one of the states with the worse roads.

Next is SC placed at an economic disadvantage when attempting to attract new businesses when Georgia and NC roads are in much better condition.

What will the plan be as so many deficient bridges are deemed unsafe and immediate funding is needed to repair or rebuild.

The budget is made up of state general funds, federal, and other.

Of course the roads are poorly paved. The house has tried to funds with existing tax dollars and the senate wants a tax increase. They believe if they starve transportation enough you will one day beg for an increase in gas tax.

As always the House blames the Senate and vice versa. Meanwhile the state's infrastructure continues to deteriorate while neighboring states surpass us. Well accept in the number of highways deaths per millions driven.

On the bright side catfish should be a much simpler and cheaper fix.
