    Default Parasites?

I was cleaning a wood duck this morning and as i was cutting the breast out, a little bug thing crawled out of the meat. Saw 3 others after that one. Should i eat it? Or chunk it? It looked like a really small beetle. Had the body of an earwig, but no pincher-lookin-thing.

Rice Breast probably. Don't see it in Wood Ducks too often.

Harmless if eaten( after being cooked) just nasty to think about. I have seen it in Shovelers more than any other variety..

    Just google- " Sarcocystis"

Mites or lice. Doubt it came out the meat. I see them all the time.
I still fly that southern flag.

    Was it white?

Does not sound like rice breast. Are you 100% sure it came out of the meat? pokin fun could be right. I've only seen rice breast a handful of times, but the ducks are usually eat up with it when they have it.

It's what he wrote. He was there. Give the man some credit.

I personally have seen birds with just a few of the parasites IN the meat and of course, the instances where they are "eaten up" with it. I have cleaned plenty of birds infected with rice breast.

What the OP wrote sounds exactly like Sarcocystis to me.

Calm down smart ass. I feel I comprehend pretty well. I have killed a lot of birds with lice on them in this warm weather. He described them. I have cleaned birds with them so bad I had to skin them but I prefer plucking. Shits crawling up your arms. Slow down you might learn something.

He said 'crawled out" and mentioned it looked like an earwig. Two big signs it was not rice breast.

I've never messed around with the ducks with rice breast, but I would assume they do not crawl around like an earwig.

Maybe you are the one who needs to read a little slower.

If it's not one of these throw the meat out:

If it is one of those, haven't you noticed these before? I'd bet every duck on the planet has them.
