Local Delta Waterfowl chapter installs duck houses

The Kellys Slough Chapter of Delta Waterfowl installed Delta-style hen houses on two waterfowl production areas in western Grand Forks County and private land in eastern Nelson County last weekend.

According to chapter member Matt Jones, the local group is putting out 50 houses, purchased with funds they raised during their first annual banquet last September. The chapter also assisted the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in refurbishing nesting structures on Kellys Slough National Wildlife Refuge northwest of Grand Forks.

The Delta-style hen houses are artificial nesting structure used by ducks, mainly mallards, which give the birds a safe, secure place to nest away from predators such as raccoons, skunks and fox.
