The main thing is your shooting ability! The choke will help fine tune it.

The carlsons extended range is a .700 constriction and I shoot everything with it. It will reach out and touch them.
If it ain't broke it ain't mine!

I shoot a patternmaster ext. at everything from deer to doves and I love it. That being said, I will say that I just got it last year, and before that I used modified at everything. I would say if you are hunting flooded timber to start with mod. or i/c, if hunting open water try mod. or full and see what suits YOU best.

    This topic again?

    Retarded.

duece, forget about the damn choke and all of this bullshit these guys are posting. The choke you have is fine. What you should know and concentrate on is this.

1 - Lethality exists primarily in the core of the shot string.

2 - In order to hit a bird with the core of the shot string you must do two things.
    a) shoot the line of the bird.
    b) make sure at least some of the pellets are in front of the bird.

If you can do that, it won't matter what choke or pellet size you decide to use.

Full WITH STEEL DOES NOT EQUAL BLOWN PATTERNS IN EVERY GUN. However, it does mean at 25-30yds you do actually have to know how to shoot. because you can shoot ones head almost off at 25yds with full. Full+steel at 30yds= few cripples. if there are any survivors full will finish one off nicely with a head shot. Not many people can shoot well enough to use a full choke and consistently have good results. heck most people have trouble shooting doves much less ducks.

Tip: learn how to shoot doves with a full choke and light loads in close and your percentages killing ducks will go up.

I made kind of a blanket statement, and I'm aware of that. In later seasons (doves) I will pull out a full to an Imp. Mod. Without knowing what the shotgun was I made a logical guess. I should have payed more attention to the thread.
