From the looks of that second pic, you have it planted way too heavy!
Take the chain saw and herbicide to some of that junky timber to get some sun to the ground and you will make that hole much more productive next year.

What are ya'lls thoughts on how big the ideal flooded timber hole is? Im looking at clearing one out in the coming weeks; is it better to have a couple of smaller holes in close proximity?

Size of the hole becomes a little less important when you fill it with lots of tiny little yellow decoys!!!

trad would probably be the best one to ask about how to do this to reach optimum potential! He would probably even be willing to come back during the season and see how it is coming along!!!

Listen close to Calibogue, he knows of which he speaks. If you could see his place/plantation and how it's managed you would not believe you were in South Carolina 2010. From deer to duck to wild quail, he excels at management. Kno Dat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Im looking at opening up (2) 40ft holes in a 15 acre Greentree reservoir within about 100ft of each other. The reservoir is pretty overgrown and located adjacent to our rice field. If anyone has any thoughts on how best to tweak these dimensions its much appreciated.

I wanta know how you gonna keep the deer from eatin it before it has a chance. I planted millet, came back to it when it was just gettin right and looked like a weedeater to hell had come through it.

unfortunately DRDUCK, our deer population has declined significantly the past 5 years or so due to coyotes. while i do expect a few deer to nibble on this, we do have corn and wheat fields close by that they go to.
