    Default Island Vacation ideas?

Looking at going on a vacation around June with the wife and another couple. I'm just starting to research a handful of locations. Jamaica, Caiman Islands, Aruba, Cabo...... I want an all inclusive resort. I'm a little leary about some of the websites without knowing someone who has been there before. I would hate to send my money to someone and when I get there there is no such place. I don't want to be killed by Mexican gangs or Somali pirates. Don't want to break the bank. Where have you been and what do you recommend?
He would have been nice next year.

The Green Turtle Club, Green Turtle Kay... The GTC is high up on the list of thing to do again.

I have never been on an all inclusive trip, was told to steer clear by some people and different by others.... the Sandal's resorts do it up I am told, but again no experience. Go to Green Turtle and enjoy life (but take your checkbook)

I have been to Breezes in Runaway Bay (Jamaica) three times. It's smaller, less flashy than the Sandals resorts. But I've had a good time every time I've been there. A few restaurants on site. Good pools, fun staff. And a great dive shop (PADI, Five Star) on site. Totally all inclusive.

    I recommend it for a less-than-priciest option.

We went to the Sandals in Antigua on our honeymoon. We didn't do much outside the resort, but there was no real need to do so. Due to an overbooking, we were upgraded to a private beachfront cottage and given $500 in credit at the shops/spa/etc.
All inclusive is the way to go. I love to tell this story: After 4 days of tropical cocktails, I needed to cleanse my system, so I bellied up to one of the bars and requested a Johnny Walker. "Black, Gold, or Blue label?" was the bartender's question. "Blue label will be fine" I responded. I must have had 4 or 5 $25 glasses of scotch, and I didn't have to pay one cent extra.
I would go back and recommend it to not only complete strangers over the internet, but to my friends as well.

Yes, but I'm not a FAN of Mexico. I wouldn't go back, but then again I have friends that love it. I like St. John the best.

Jamacia is NASTY! I've done Aruba, Bahamas (2x), Cancun (4x), Dominican Republic, Jamacia, and Barbados.

Dominican rocked! Cancun is what it is; fun but over commercialized, and Barbados is AWESOME!

Here's a slideshow of our trip which was in October to Mango Bay Resort in Christ Church Barbados: http://s434.photobucket.com/albums/q...view=slideshow

Argentina dove hunt or fishing ...

    wait I'm not married

seriously I'm not sure what it costs for an all inclusive Carribean deal but it probably won't be much more to fly south and you can deal with a company right here in SC.

You've got to be careful with trip advisor. It's a bunch of posts from knuckleheads like we've got around here. Are you going to take honeymoon advice from Pine Island or BudsCountryLanyards? I'm certainly not. At least here, you've got some level of familiarity with the folks presenting the information. I can see it now:

Make sure you do research on which islands have had bad storms the past couple of seasons. You want to hear calypso music on the beach, not jackhammers and piledrivers. I've been to the Bahamas, Jamaica, St. Martin, Grand Cayman, Cozumel, Cancun. I would gladly return to all but Jamaica and St. Martin. My next trip will probably be to St. John or back to the Bahamas.

Why not do a Costa Rica or Panama trip, fushin on the reefs, stick fish, roosters in the surf, jungle activties etc.
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

my favorite by a long shot. All inclusives arent very common down there. We stay right in the marina in a condo. Cheapest fishing anywhere.
31' bertrams for $500 a day. 26' pangas for $30 an hour. No run to the grounds etc.
Cabo is spread out big time, Night life is confined to the marina area and alot of the better hotels are 20-30 miles out from the marina.

Try googling the Van Wormer resorts, there is 3 down in the vicinity of Cabo/East Cape. Known a few that have stayed in them and they loved them.
Cozumel is a cool little island, we stayed twice at a place called El Cozumeleno..that is an all inclusive. We enjoyed it, but I am more of a desert fan than jungle

Everyone that responds will have a different idea..i'm not a bahama/jamaica fan. People worry about Mexico, understandable. I dont, i just relate better to mexicans vice jamaicans.

Try Los Suenos Resort in Costa Rica for a change of pace. Different feel than the Carribean but beautiful and about as easy to get to. Be careful with the "all inclusive" which at some places is synonomous less than average buffets, neon, gold chains, and New Jerseyians. Just saying.

Yes, one of my favorite vacations. The fishing is normally awesome (marlin capital of the world) and cheap to seems like we chartered a 31 foot boat for like 450-500.

Tequilla volleyball is the pool isn't so bad either.

We stayed at the villa del pa mar which was walking distance down to the marina.

St Martin on the dutch side is fun! You can travel with the locals for 1-2$ anywhere. Meals are the excellent and the people are great. The french side is snobby. Lots of sailing coming in and out of the island and the fishing is good.

The best part of this place is that it is safe and you can go out at night and not have any problems(unlike jamaica, st. lucia, st. thomas(crack city), etc.

X3 on jamaica being dirty. We pretty much had to stay at the resort the entire time.
