    Default WMA Lands

So fellas I have been looking at a hunting club that borders a big creek/river.

I just found out that 10 feet on the clubs side of the creek was purchased and is WMA land. Almost like a Rigt of Way.

Now I am getn in this club to hog hunt with dogs.........I know the WMA is closed now and during the summer so if I were to turn out on this club land and a hog has crossed that they are gonna follow.

Anybody else dealt with this type thing? I know you would have to go get the dogs and that would/could turn into a ticket from the lawman.

I am trying to figure out if I should get in this club........whether it will be worth the money or not.

If I'm not mistaken WMA doesn't "close" till after turkey season. You can squirrel hunt with dogs on wma right now and if I read/remember what I read right, you can still hog hunt wma right now. Id call dnr to double check

Also, if it is like deer season when one unit is open and another is closed (dog days), as long as your gun is unloaded and cased, you can go get your dogs if they go onto the closed unit. I think this is right but I'd give the leo's a call and they can tell you.

How did you "find out" that the WMA purchased this 10' strip of property?

The land is an estate and I work with a guy that is in the family. he told me and I studied it myself and Because it is on the club maps and it is on the GMA maps. It looks like they purchased the strip to connect to existing WMA's?

get a dog that wont let a hog run very far. thats what all of us do. bays them fuckers quick and nasty and they get no chance to run far.

how many hounds do you have and what kind? it makes a huge difference in the breed on quick bays and catches.

and 2th can sew a dog up pretty quick.

G I am just getting into it, I am hunting with who I can right now, but I am in the process of stating to put me a pack together. I am however debating this property because of the hog potential.

What do yall run G? Hog doggn s like anything else there is so many breeds out there and the best depends on who you talk to.

I like your definition of a dog better than any other I have heard. Piss on lettin em run for days

You had better put them on the internet for sale cause the rest of the world has been trying to find that. LOL In a briar patch the best dog in the world is no better than a chiwawa. Some hogs WONT bay, you got to pull em down. Breed dont matter either. It is speed, grit, brains, and finness that get it done. Know dat.

That means you may have unwanted foot traffic along the creek of this club for access to both WMA properties. It sounds to me like an invitation for renegade poachers on your club.

if i am not mistakin, you can go anywere you want to retrieve a hunting dog, but it must be on foot with no weapons for the sole purpose of retrieving the dog. I would stop by to talk to the wma manager and let him know what your doing and make sure what you need when you cross over if you have to.
