Umbrella rig, it is basically a large 3-4 arm wire rig with a jig trailer off of each arm and then one long trailer that runs off the middle. It simulates a school of bait going throught he water, you troll with the big motor when fishing them and use heavier gear(I use some of my saltwater stuff)

I've had multiple hookups on the same umbrella rig before....imagine reeling in 2 or 3 fish at a time!

are those u rigs not a royal pain? do you run them top water or way down where you are marking the bait? (new to stripers too)

Oh yea they can be a PITA but they catch fish, be sure and get one of the retrievers since you will get hung up and need one to pull your rig out of the tree.

You run them deep to where the fish are, it is controlled by weight, boat speed and amount of line out(further the line is out the deeper they run-normally anywhere between 15-30' deep)

One draw back to them is using heavier gear to pull them but they do catch fish

Fished Hartwell on Sunday. No bites. Heard about 6 other boats on the radio and only 2 brought in 1 fish a piece. We ran free lines and a down rod with live bait, but didn't catch a single fish. Put in at Conneross (sp?) and fished about all over that area.

Fished Hartwell again yesterday and no dice. I know some folks are catching fish the same way we fish...guess it is just luck of the draw until the weather warms up for us.
