Default SC is not educational bottom feeder after all

Dang what a let down. All this time I thought our kids were leading the country in being dumb. We gotta loosen up and get back down there where we belong. Being number 11 is just puts too much pressure on our kids. How can they go out and have fun when they have to study to keep up with the other states. That sux!

Study shows state not educational bottom feeder after all

An annual study released today by Education Week dispels the notion South Carolina is at the bottom in education.

Quality Counts 2010 places South Carolina at No. 11 in the nation for education policy and performance, rates the state No. 1 for policy and performance in the teaching profession and bestows perfect scores on the state in the areas of building and supporting the teaching profession, school accountability and aligning education with the work force.

State and local education officials said this report, by an independent group using original research and a variety of sources, shows South Carolina’s actual progress.

“I’m elated, but I’m not surprised. ... This validates what we already knew,” Greenwood School District 50 Superintendent Darrell Johnson said. “We knew our students could compete with students from any state in the nation.”

The No. 1 ranking for teaching policies and performance, combined with high grades in standards and accountability are particularly telling, administrators said.

“Teacher quality, standards, assessment and accountability are foundational for academic achievement,” Ware Shoals Superintendent Fay Sprouse said.

Abbeville Superintendent Ivan Randolph said a statewide effort to improve teaching and learning has had a huge effect on the classroom, and the Quality Count reports reflects that progress.

“Our teachers and support staff have gone above and beyond to educate the children of South Carolina,” Randolph said.

    I don't believe that for a second.

    That's hilarious!

I noticed they didn't have any quotes from any school districts along the I95 corridor...

I do know that in SC, when the cumulative scores are averaged, all scores are in the hat. Most, if not all states do not count special ed classes in their averages the way SC does.
However, I don't think SC is in as good a shape as the report says.
