    Default New Aquatic Plant

I was talking wiyh a guy from DNR at the WAC meeting in Georgetown, and he told me about a new aquatic plant growing in the Santee lakes. I believe he said it was a lily of some kind. Just wondering if anyone Knows anything about it, and if it is good for the ducks.

Here's an old article about it. Seems there was a thread on here about it also.

Thanks for the info. Sorry, I looked at old threads and didn't see anything on it. I didn't know it was an old issue.

OK, my curiosity was what it was doing for the ducks. When I asked the DNR guy he kind of ducked the question.

I wouldn't hang my fowling hat on ANOTHER invasive species, especially one that is a lilypad...

    its a non-native lily pad.
Nearly all aquatic vegetation is beneficial.
It may not be a direct food to them, but it will host loads of nymphs that ducks will feed on for protein.
Be proactive about improving public waterfowl habitat in South Carolina. It's not going to happen by itself, and our help is needed. We have the potential to winter thousands of waterfowl on public grounds if we fight for it.

the lilly pad thing could be "floating heart" and santee cooper is spraying it a fast as they can to kill it. But, eel grass is different and many people say it has alot of potential to produce good food and habitat for both fish and ducks.

I just hope SC does not kill it too.

I guess I know what the first people that brought Kudzu over were thinking.
