I would try plot saver before i built any more fencing . Weve got 7 strands of electric fence , plus on the back side where most of the deer come from , weve got 3 more strands about 2 feet outside of the main fence line . and the bastards still get in there from time to time and go to work on the sunflowers . Tried plotsaver ribbon last year , and didnt lose any ....first time in a long time weve been able to get a full crop of sunflowers . This stuff works . Also tried it at one of the duck holes around the corn....the corn outside the ribbon got devoured and the corn inside the ribbon didnt get touched .
If it aint got 8 toes & a green head,it aint a duck.

I have talked with 5 friends with 5 different fields in Spartanburg and York counties and everyone has a BAD field. The sunflowers don't look good. Sparse germination and generally look like crap.
2 WMA fields look bad too.
You would not happen to be a brick salesman would you ??? My buddy was telling me his brick salesman was seeing same results and was in your area

    Who got the bricks, man?

I got the bugs in one field, and the deers in another. Going to solve both issues shortly. Bugs are worse than the deer. Thought I'd zapped it with the Cadre, but the other fields that were sprayed that day were fine.

Fortunately, I’ve had good germination on my sunflowers and have good results so far. I planted the day before a rain towards end of April and then got rain a day or two later. Rain wise, I've been lucky. My electric fence has done the trick for two years but I’m a little paranoid after reading some of the comments. Hopefully, mine continues to work. I also tried a little corn for the first time and right now it’s looking good. I’m small time compared to some of yall. Only about 4 acres which includes some millet around the perimeter. Fingers crossed things keep progressing in the right direction.

We planted 5/1 and then got rain less than week later. Had some coming up when were out there setting power poles for fake power line. We got millet around in strips as well. We may end up plowing and planting more millet but deer have hit sunflowers harder this year than ever for some reason.

We have a pretty large field buy only plant about 4-6 acres According to him we might have 2 acres of sunflowers now

My buddy reached out to Clemson extension agent, she is coming out next week to look at it

He sprayed field with with 2-4-d prior to planting to kill pigweed. Waited 2 weeks, according to her that was way too soon

Other thing she thinks is could have planted seed too deep, not sure why since we plant same way every year with same planter

IDK , we shaking out heads and already plowing and planting the bad areas in millet

Ext Agent did mention that pigweed thrives where there is low nitrogen in ground and to plant winter wheat after dove season
