Supposed to go Saturday and Wednesday. Both will probably get blown out with my luck. I dont have a dove field to plant but I'm always.looking for a club. Starting to think they're a myth.

Planted and sprayed this weekend. Took all damn weekend but its behind me. As the rain chances for this week have slowly fell apart...
Regardless, they will be there along with a hell of a pigweed crop.

We planted and sprayed the sunflowers Saturday when there was 54% chance of rain for today, and then it vanished. Should be alright though. Corn planted on March 21 didn't get rain for 4-5 weeks or better and it surprisingly grew to about 18" or so but has really took off since the couple rains we've gotten over the last 2 weeks. Hopefully get the boom on the sprayer welded back on before we have to spray again, luckily was one pass from finishing spraying and was able to rig it up to finish.

Finally got around to putting up our fake power line today. Bought the wire 4-5 yrs ago and we just never got around to it . We had a lull one of the guys had on couple job sites and other one brought Bobcat with auger bit .

Nobody DIED or even got hurt which is always a plus LOL

Should really make this field much better, just need some more rain

Wish someone would tell me how to upload pictures now without being sideways or upside down

Our sunflowers and looking like crap , my buddy is scratching his head . Planted same way every year but this year they look very sparse and just (as he says ) “look like shit”. He is talking about plowing up and just planting more millet

Question I have is the cooler than normal weather we have had causing any issues ?? Seeds were planted very end of April and we got rain couple weeks later He is even concerned something was wrong with seeds , another guy used same seeds and is less than impressed so far .

Got to be with driving. students most of day and gonna ride up by Fants Grove and look at public field , planted about same time as ours and last time I was that way not much growth but been couple weeks

TPRICE we have the same problems.

I have talked with 5 friends with 5 different fields in Spartanburg and York counties and everyone has a BAD field. The sunflowers don't look good. Sparse germination and generally look like crap.
2 WMA fields look bad too.

Our sunflowers are looking great so far, weeds starting to show a little so hopefully get them sprayed again in next week or so. Weeds aren't as bad as last year though since we flipped the field this year. Early corn is already making some good ears, 2-3 to the stalk on most.

My second planting looks good with exception to the Zidua burn they have on them right now but they will come out of it.
Sunflowers are funny and very fickle. If you planted in dry ground 2 weeks before you got any rain, honestly I would expect what some of you are seeing in my opinion.

What HS said, sunflowers have historically been in same location for as long as I can remember with corn or soybeans in adjacent fields. Pigweed became immune to the traditional sunflower herbicides so we planted corn in "dovefield" this year and did sunflowers in part of the adjacent fields to try and manage the weeds better. So far it seems to have been a good move, but will see how the weeds react to our post-emerge spray...

Thanks, our late corn planting is still TBD. Corn is growing good as we've gotten plenty of rain, but the weeds are just as tall as the corn and we've gotten the sprayer stuck 5 times so far trying to get it all sprayed... Always something, we just try to figure it out as we go.

I will add that we are in Aiken County and our planter is a strip till setup with subsoilers that helps immensely through droughts as we are all "dry land" (non-irrigated).

Sunflowers and corn sprouted, got 4-6 inches of rain in 2 days. Silted over and then crusted over, most of emerging plants. Looked like crap. Just plowed under and replanted last week. Millet doing good

Planted April 3 and rolled the dice. I was able to get my timely rains and things were looking good. Then noticed deer got into the electric fence and over 2 weeks ate every sunflower head. The electric fence lasted 4 years, which is about what was expected. Going to go with a metal 8ft permanent fence on 2 sides and then 2 sides of the 8ft poly fence that I can take down to run my rows out next year. The corn inside the fence still looks good and I had enough volunteer millet under the sunflowers that I had not sprayed down yet to hopefully save those rows with some food in them. Got a few acres of millet outside the wire also to diversify.

Looking at doing the 8ft critter fence or something similar. Open to suggestions on anything better then it that could be removable. From what I have seen, deer and pigs always find a way in even with electric ribbon or wire. Only way forward I can see is a decent taller fence and maybe a line of electric wire on the bottom at the outside .

My buddy has talked with couple other folks with same issues.

I did drive by Fants Grove today and looking about like it should this time of year

We debating plowing and putting millet in those areas

I am also curious if we need to rotate crops , planting same areas every year for last 6-7 yrs but have always done fine
