Default For all my fellow snorers and those with OSA

...if you snore, there is about a 99.9% chance you have Obstructive Sleep Apnea, and its terrible for your heart and your health. This following is NOT medical advice...just the opinion of a guy who puts people to sleep for a living and observes that, if they snore, nearly 100% go from snoring to obstructive apnea with desaturation. They do this in the best position they can be in to not obstruct. Most have never been diagnosed with a sleep study. Plenty didn't have a clue that they even snore to begin with. If you snore, you are likely getting plenty of shitty sleep and very little to no good sleep that is necessary for long term health and for feeling worth a damn on a day to day basis.

I can relieve airway obstruction during sleep/sedation and get nearly 100% of those that obstruct breathing smoothly and quietly with one finger and very little effort by simply sliding my hand under the side of the face that's in the pillow and putting light forward pressure at the angle of the jaw; simply moving the jaw forward as if I'm making them "mew" (ask a young kid what that is if you don't know) opens all but the very most abnormal airways.

Obesity is a HUGE contributing factor to OSA. I snore when I hit about 212 lbs, and I have been over that threshold for a long time now, It would be best to lose the weight, but I have not been able to do that and stay there for quite a few years. CPAPs work well...for those it works well for. I tried it, and I just was never able to keep one on throughout the night.

Knowing what I know about gentle jaw manipulation opening the airway, I looked for something that would hold my lower jaw forward during sleep. I settled on SnoreRx plus. It works. After two nights of hating the slight discomfort and taking it out, the third night I fell asleep with it and kept it in all night...and I woke up thinking, "hey, I remember feeling like this when I'd wake up when I was young and didn't know to appreciate it!"

Now, If I can't find it or I leave it home on an overnight trip, my obstructive apnea/snoring wakes me up over and over and over for hours until I'm finally exhausted enough to get to "sleep" deep enough to not realize I'm "sleeping" miserably and I wake up feeling like shit. That stupid little plastic mouthpiece is one of the most important possessions I own, and if you snore, I highly, highly recommend getting one and using it, because it will change your life regarding the way you feel day to day, and it will most certainly extend your life all other health variables being equal.

If you can't tolerate CPAP or if you can tolerate it but hate that you have to...its well worth the 99.00 to see if this will work for you.

Oh...This thing uses your top teeth to hold your lower jaw forward, so It's not going to work for denture wearers unless you have some polygrip with some serious ass to it.

For the record, I was diagnosed with apnea, but a very low grade. Low enough to not justify a CPAP. However, I've been snoring like a freight train since I was a teenager. Hitting the ideal total target time of sleep, as well as the recommended amounts of deep and REM, are a struggle.

Word to the wise, if you get one of these "appliances" keep them under heavy security. Your dog will make it a chew toy in 2 seconds.

I've had 3, and 1 remains. I paid my civilian dentist for one, and the military covered the other 2 while I was on active duty over the past few years. The Tap device was my favorite, until one of my dogs decided she needed to destroy it.

The one that remains is the original that some old dentist on the Air Force Base made for me. It's essentially 2 mouthpieces from your days of JV football where you set it in boiling water then bite down in it.... but with a second one for the lower teeth, then they're glued together in a position that shifts your jaw open and forward. It helps!

Yes...the dog's love them. The SoreRx + has 10mm of travel adjustment to allow the least amount of lower jaw forward push necessary to kill the snoring. It also is hinged so that you can open your mouth with the pieces staying put on your upper and lower teeth.

I got serious about not being fat a few years ago.

    Dropped from 250 to 190

Cholesterol drop, blood pressure drop, snoring stopped and dumbfounded cardiologist that six months prior said cholesterol is hereditary, you can eat twigs, fruits, and berries, and it’ll still be high.

For 99% of us, it's all about weight.

Good job man. I used to be able to drop 30-40 lbs in short order and would do so every spring...then put it back on over the winter with my decreased physical activity and increased fall hunting season and Holliday calorie intake. Since COVID, I can't drop the weight as easily or as fast and I put it on easier and faster. It might just be coincidence and might just be me getting older, and COVID may not have anything to do with it, but me quickly getting skinny and fit each spring came to a halt the spring of 2022.

I need to not make excuses and get my weight back down between 200 and 210 and keep it there, but until I do, this little anti-snore mouthguard is worth its weight in gold. Wob is spot on.

Good on you guys for losing the weight to help give some relief.

I was 135 in high school, athletic and lean. Stayed close to that thru most of my 20s. Snored like hell then. I'm ~170 now at 46, hasn't really gotten worse but hasn't gonna away either. Don't matter what weight I am, I snore. Most of that weight I added being muscle when I started working out again post-COVID. So that's good weight, not the bad type. I'm getting dangerously close to actually having some definition in my abs again.

Tried the oral device first, it only worked for a while then I started snoring again. Screwed up my bite alignment also.

Went to a CPAP machine and haven’t looked back. Love it!

    CPAP > dentist device

but the dentist's device sure can work for those that cant wear a CPAP.

i wouldnt try one online. talk about potential issues.

it can disrupt the bite but with some simple PT in the morning, its rarely an issue.
Ugh. Stupid people piss me off.
