Been watching them on and off. They are catching some really good fish. That herring bite is on fire

It’s on fire for those who understand it. TV makes it look very simple.

Watched a YouTube video yesterday of Dave Mercer interviewing anglers at the ramp before putting in on day 2. Nearly all of them said they hate the herring lakes and wish they would wipe them off the schedule.

It’s a different ballgame. Watching the coverage you think you just throw a fluke out and reel. What you don’t see is the 5000 other casts they make. You add high skies and no wind, it will make you want you quit fishing all together.

I was a Marshall Thursday and Friday. The “scopers” do some sneaky stuff. I lover herring fishing but it’s only because it frustrated me so bad I was bound and determined to try and figure it out (which I certainly not an expert). It also helps when you have a buddy who really understands it. Even then, they ain’t giving up all the secrets lol.

I know it is tough, but they aren’t making nearly as many casts as they used to. Blind casting at and hoping for the best is not over but becoming more obsolete. I spoke with a tournament fisher a couple weeks ago and he said his body doesn’t feel nearly as bad after a big tournament as he used to. Spend more time riding and looking at the scope. Instead of making 150 casts covering a point in an hour, he may now only make 40 casts in that hour but those casts are all targeting fish in his livescope.

It will be feast or famine this week at Santee. FFS is not allowed.

I look for a few big bags but a lot of less than five fish bags.

Good! It's cheating in my book.

I’ve never understood the cheating argument. Every single angler had the same opportunity to learn the technology. Some chose to adapt and some did not. If one wants to have the argument that it is not “old school” fishing I am onboard with that but it’s not against the law nor is it against tournament regulations……hence it’s not cheating.

NPFL doesn’t allow FFS so there are options out there for the purists.

Anyone have an opinion on the impact getting submerged aquatic vegetation back in Lake Murray has in relation to bass tournaments bag weights.

I know the shad and herring have seemed to explode on Murray and the Stripers are thriving on them. I'm guessing the largemouth are too.
Listen to your elders. Not because they are always right but because they have more experiences of being wrong.

Grass has 1000 percent helped the largemouth.
