7/1-8/30 is what I’m hearing on the season. Be nice if it opened 5/1-7/31 though. Regardless, I’m killing a bunch of them this year.

Shit, I’ve caught them from North Inlet reef to 500’. 90-120’ they’re most prevalent. My son pulled a 36” 30# fish in 105’ last year, the 15# I caught at the same time looked like a minnow. 10” Bliner on a fishfinder rig is money. Greenbacks are much better than menhaden. Slow pitch 100g jigs on 30-50# floro and a 200g rod are fun as hell. I got an Accurate BV300 on a 200g OTI Pitch Black that weighs about 1.5# total, it’s bad ass and fun to whip big fish with.

Find some live or hard bottom and fish it 15-30’ off the bottom. You’ll get some jacks as well.

You’ll catch smaller ones on chicken rigs hugging the bottom with BSB and Bliners. The bigger ones are suspended up, they like some motion and bigger baits.

Easier than rockfish in the river probably. My in-laws have a saltwater pond full of footlong mullet down there. Snapper and cobia enjoy them thoroughly

Anything past 65 ft any more, they are a dang nuisance. Some of the biggest ones we've caught the last few years have been in 70ft.

Long fluoro topshots is what we catch them on but we are also targeting grouper. Learn what they look like on the sounder, hit the bottom, then real up to whatever level they are at.
