Default Dogs and separation anxiety or kennel anxiety

6 1/2 yr old Boykin has in last year or so has seemed to develop “separation anxiety “ from me.

Lot of days he goes to my office and will stay under my desk or in a kennel in my office when clients are in and out of my office

But when I leave him at home in kennel we come home and he is soaking wet from slobber and apparently scratch and bottom of kennel. Wife said he does this when I leave before she does

Even at my office if I have to run out and leave him in the kennel he does same thing . My office manager laughs the way he follows me every where I go in the office

He has been “kennel trained” since a pup but in last year or so it seems he is not happy in it He does sleep in bed with wife and I at night

We leave him out in the house when we are gone for short periods of time, 4-5 hrs but longer than that I put him in kennel.

Any ideas what has caused this all of a sudden and what actions can or should I take.

Our last dog developed anxiety around that age, we think it was a smoke detector or something going off while we were at work. Poor dog was never the same.

My buddy had the same thing happen. Lil bastard would tear out of a chain link kennel, not get out, tear out! Broke 2 of his canines. Go to your vet and get him some drugs....

What kind of dog house is in the kennel? I dont have any boykins, but I'm using plastic 55 gallon drums for housing inside the enclosures and the dogs love it. A barrel vs. a dog house...may have anxiety over not feeling safe in the enclosure? idk

The dog is having mental breakdown.
Exercising that energy before caging might be a suggestion.
Change the circumstances, don’t just add meds to the situation.

The term “pent up _____” (energy, anxiety, aggression, etc) is a commonly used phrase and seem fitting)

They are weird for sure!! My buddies dog was getting plenty of exercise and had a large kennel. All of a sudden around 7-8 years old he started it. After all the BS and checkups with the vet they put him on some meds and he was chill. Plus they started doggie daycare where he'd be with someone while they where at work.

    He stays inside the house

Up until about a month ago he stayed on back screened in porch and would just sit in chair all day and sometimes walk around porch looking out Back yard has 6' wood privacy fence

I leave tv on for noise for porch and even have camera out there to check on him However about a month ago I was at my office and at lunch pulled up FB and our HOA has a FB page , neighbor had posted pic of "somebody's dog is out" Damn it was mine, called her and she kept him till I got home I have the FI tracking collar on him but due to my being in my desk drawer and on silent I missed the alert he left the yard. He had been out about an hour and could see he went back to house about 3-4 times

Brought him to my office and when wife got home she saw where he had gone through the screen in the one spot he could fit thru and then dug under the fence , he has never done anything like that before . Only thing I can attribute it to he house behind us was getting new roof and maybe nail guns going off all day freaked him out, IDK. He is neutered so not like he got a wif of a dog in heat or anything

Tried putting him back on porch one day last week and before I sat down to eat at local restaurant he was already off porch and trying to dig in same spot under fence

Hate leaving him in kennel crate at home but there are days I can not bring him to the office

Even considered running underground electric fence , SIL has one of these for their German shepherds and works great . He suggested that may work in case he gets

Going to look at making porch where he can not get thru that spot but seems like once they do it they learn i a hurry the way to do it again

Get some gummies. I just finished a renovation job for a lady with a 220# English Mastiff. He was a basket case but she gave him a gummy and he’d chill out and just lay in the kennel. After a while he’d just come up and lean on you to get his ears scratched or lay down for a belly rub. Giant baby unless he knew you were scared of him, then he’d F with you just for fun. Stinkingest dog I’ve ever been around though.
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Build an outdoor kennel (welded wire) with concrete pad. Put him in there when you're gone and can't take him with you. He'll probably go to sleep once he realizes he can't get out and no one cares if he's barking.

Just don't take them to Canada. They jacked my ass up for 4 hours over CBD gummies for the dog. I thought I was going to prison. Meanwhile, they have real pot shops on every corner.

My wife's dog has it, one of them at least.. he's all full of emotions. He was the first dog that isn't a hunter we've owned.
