Default Starting the Week Off Right

With the exception of youth day it’s been an extremely slow season and it seemed like the birds had disappeared from my spots. This morning is the only time I can say for certain that I heard birds gobbling and I capitalized on the opportunity.

I’ve seriously been considering getting rid of a few autos and having only pumps and double barrels

I don't blame you. I sold a few newer guns and have gone back to shooting nothing but 870s and 1100s.

I have the same 12 gauge 21" 870 as you but I had it dipped several years ago. I'm going to try to strip it back down to the factory finish.

nice work and love the old beaten up 870!

I shot one a couple weeks back, and hunted hard yesterday morning. Overcast and bit of rain early, but heard one wayyy off on the limb. He shut up as soon as he hit the ground and I walked around periodically calling for the next 3 or 4 hours. Around 11AM I was packing up to head back to the house and gave one more yelp. Heard him gobble about 400 yards off through the pines in a grown up oat and clover field. I walked 100 yards at a bend in the road and yelped again. He gobbled so close I could hear the bass and the rattle in his gobble, man there's nothing else like it when you hear that. I ducked off the edge of the road and got down on my knees. He rounded the bend strutting and drumming clear as day, head white as snow. There was some sweetgums in between me and him so never had a clear shot. He knew something was up when he didn't see that hen standing in the middle of the road, he took off.

One of the most fun hunts I've had even though we didn't seal the deal yesterday. A few more days to try to get it done.

I love the simplicity and reliability of my old 870, but hang if it doesn't feel like carrying a 2x4 made of lead after toting around a 28 gauge Beretta. Good stuff, Duck cutter
