Since everyone is so worried about me not pulling the trigger last trip... I promise you don't have to worry about me killing my share of birds this year.
Skipped opening weekend in SC to run down to Florida to hunt some Non-quota Public land with my brother and my dad. This was a pretty impromptu trip with a little guidance from my buddy/coworker in the area. This was an awesome area and full of birds.
Let me tell you. Easily the most "competitive" turkey hunting I've ever done. Not necessarily the hardest, as the birds were there and vocal, just that as soon as he gobbles there's 2-3 groups under him.
Anyways, on Easter morning I ran in after dropping my brother and dad off at one spot, I ran about 1000 yards in trying to get close to where I knew they had been the last 2 days. It lasted about 25 minutes of me just siting still and scratching some leaves (while I could hear someone else calling 100 yards away) and he walked in to about 25 yards in a cypress bottom.
I'm not sure if it was because it was easter Sunday, or because of how challenging/rewarding that hunt was, but I can say without a doubt that I felt an extra presence with me that morning. Just super thankful for being able to be in the woods and truly enjoy Gods creation.
Edited to add- Osceola is off the board. Guess we gotta go for the slam now.
