    Default .22 WMR

The boys and I were talking last night about fishing inshore and up the Santee Delta some. Seems like every time we go in the winter we’ll see hogs along the banks there or up in the Samworth area. I told them we can use buckshot as it has to be the same caliber or round used for small game on WMA lands.

Got me to thinking, I own bunches of .22’s, a couple of .17 HMR’s but not a .22 WMR. I started looking thinking there’s going to be a bunch of AR platform options but those are few. Savage A22 and a few others in a traditional semi auto and a ton of bolt options.

What would you look at for a .22 WMR? Accurate, reliable, easy to find parts and upgrade.
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

10/22 for parts and upgrades. Savage or CZ for bolt action.

Ruger American .22 WMR. Threaded barrel. Suppressed with an Innovative Arms SS Slingshot (in the raw). Toss a rimfire Leupold up top and it'll be lights out.

I love my American in standard LR.

I'd also suggest a good Cerakote job to survive the elements. Gotta name-drop my dude Gavin @ East Coast Cerakote. I'm guessing $125 for the barrel & receiver in a single color. Might be $100 if ya mention me.

Check the regulations. I'm not sure you can shoot hogs on a waterfowl wma unless specified.

Interested in a .22 mag myself for this same purpose. That fact that you can’t kill a hog with any means 365 days a year on SC WMAs is insane.

I have killed multiple flatbeds full of hogs with a .17 HMR. I have a savage bolt action that I carry in the side by side and it is super deadly. I haven’t looked into an AR platform, but that sounds attractive.
Them that don't know him won't like him, and them that do sometimes won't know how to take him

He ain't wrong, he's just different, and his pride won't let him do things to make you think he's right

FMNF area, into the delta and the old ricefields on the Waccamaw/Black/PeeDee. Not actually in Samworth.

I am interested in the same. I need something that is more affordable at the range, but is also useful at the same time (pigs). My son would shoot every day if he could, but I’m going broke shooting rounds that cost $1.40 each.

Just bought an Ruger American for this purpose. Certain areas down there are not open to small game hunting, thus no hog hunting. Buckshot is not allowed. Archery with broad heads is allowed.

Our guns get abused in the marsh. I hit pawn shops to find a used one. I think I paid $125 for mine years ago.

Haha, a used gun out of a pawn shop around here will be 2-3X as much as a new one.
