    Default Asian yellow legged hornet.....

    Anyone dealt with em?
    Two weeks ago I noticed a volleyball sized hornet nest under the eave of my house in Bluffton about 20' up.
    Decided to let my pest control contractor deal with it instead of getting hit, falling off a ladder and widowing my family.
    Turns out, they're the Asian murder type and Clemson extension is coming to handle it.
    Invasive species plants and animals in the southeast are out of control!

    I think they've been here longer than they want to admit. I noticed them probably 15yrs ago. Not cicada killers, but big aggressive hornets.

    I've been stung and bitten by just about everything but got hit by a Asian Needle ant on the underside of the forearm last summer and again on the ankle a couple of weeks ago. The initial sting is kind of like a fire ant but the pain doesn't go away for 16 hours or so and it includes these waves of pain that start with something that feels like bumping into the hot wire on 120 ac when you're somewhat well grounded. I'd trade it for a yellow jacket if they'd let me.

    Are we paying the price of a global economy.

    Has anyone had contact with a venomous puss caterpillar? I killed one at camp in La a few years back. Didn't know what in the world it was, so I killed it. Horrible thought if one of our grandkids touched one.

    Had a buddy cutting deer trails at camp prepping for Fall. He never saw what got him but his skin began to blister and the pain was so severe he had to load up and go to the ER. This dude is as tough as they come and he was in agony. The only thing we think was the sap of wild parsnip. The more sun exposure the worse the burn. I hate it but invasives are here to stay.

    I had some nest in a wall of the house. I sat down on one in truck. As stated, I thought I had sat on some electrical wires. Wasn't fun, but pain didn't last that long. Loaded up a sprayer with gasoline and went to work on them.

    I was bit by a spider and had the same effect from sunlight for a couple days.

    I'm sure it won't be long and we will be combating boa's and python's in the low country. Too many idiots with extremely venomous snakes in SC too, heaven forbid if (when) they get loose or released into the wild.
