Default Private Fishing Access - <1.5hr from Savannah

I will be relocating to Savannah area at some point this year and will spend most of my time fishing saltwater, but would still like to bass fish occasionally.

May be a reach but looking for somewhere private to fish for bass. I don’t mind paying, so if you or someone you know has a pond or small lake please reach out. Also open to fishing clubs/membership if that’s a thing.

Fort Stewart in Bryan County has a yearly pass or day passes. Pond Four is where they say the next state record will be caught. 516 interchange railroad pond, don’t let the boat touch both tracks at the same time and wear running shoes.

Is that Simmons Mill Pond off I16? If so, I have known the owner for 30+ years. I did not know that it blew out though.

You correct. I knew a pond dam blew in that area via the news. They didn’t say which one. Smitch rides the roads all over SE Ga , so I’m not doubting him. But Simmons Pond was at one time the holy grail, popularity has declined, due to over fished and weeds.

As for Private Pond access, Fowlshot has a hill to climb. I personally had numerous farm ponds from Rincon to Statesboro to Millhaven which produced 10+ pound bass every time I went, some fellow SC ducks members has been fishing in some. Due to recent drownings , the liability of owning a pond is a hardship and most are shutting fishing down regardless.

I could be mistaken about Simmons. I just know a lot of the millponds blew out after the rains TS Debby brought. I have not been by Simmons in a minute.

Timsmith that was some sad stuff recently in Screven Co.

Ha, that pond off 516 catches my eye every time I drive by! I’ll definitely be visiting Stewart, only down side is some areas are closed (obviously) so completely up to what’s open for public access that day.

That’s unfortunate to hear about Simmons, I’ve seen that place driving by but didn’t realize it blew out which I’d imagine sets it back to day 1 if it’s even fixed. Also sucks to hear about your ponds, I’ve heard similar stories of people worried about the liability so they cut off all access - completely understandable but sucks nonetheless.

I may give some door knocking a try once we are in the area. Might be my best bet honestly.

Give me a little while and I'll find out, for sure, if Simmons' dam blew out...

There's a small-ish pond in the median of I-16 somewhere near Metter (I don't remember exactly) that I've always wanted to stop and try. It used to be hard to see, but since they cut the timber in the median, it's easy to see. Since it's in a public median, I don't think you'd get in trouble for fishing it, but some road worker may tell you to leave.

It’s hard for me to understand why anybody would want to fish freshwater if you’re in a place Ike Savannah, but to each his own.

It's nice to fish both. I enjoy freshwater fishing from time to time.

I feel like it makes you a better all around fisherman if you can do both.

Savannah is full of Center Consoles who owes Bass Pro Shops $175 for 25 years for a boat that will last 10 years. SaltLife idiots.

The plans to rebuild the Simmons dam are almost finished. Gonna cost $250-300K.
