Default Boat Titling and Property tax question

Are property taxes not required to be paid upfront if you purchased from out of state and has never been registered in SC

    From SCDNR Site

Note: If you purchased a boat or motor from out of state and it has previously been titled or registered in SC, you must pay property taxes to your county before titling/registering with SCDNR. You can look up any boat or motor under SC Boat Facts to determine whether or not it has been titled or registered in SC.

I called DNR about the same thing last week. Was told I have to show proof the taxes were paid in my county prior to them registering the new to me boat.

Take the title and bill of sale to Lexington county and pay your property taxes before going to DNR and getting bent over again for registration fees and sales tax

Dealing with this currently. DNR in cola told me since my motor had been registered in SC I had to pay propert my taxes in Greenwood and send them the receipt along with the required paperwork.

Per DNR if it has never been titled in SC then no tax payment required

If neither the boat nor the motor has ever been registered in SC, then you do not pay property taxes first. You will pay sales tax at time of registration and then your county will bill you once SCDNR notifies them of the vehicle (watercraft.) Waiting on my property tax bill now on my new to me boat from Florida. MG
