Oh, RK ...... don't forget about the "115 Pro XS" while you're at it either.

10 minutes would be all I need to get where I'm going at the speeds that rig would be capable of.

I've already looked into it before and Merc makes a "big" tiller for their larger go motors that includes the steering assist. Hell, there are plenty of boys in Washington and Oregon running 225 and 250 Pro XS motors with tiller steering!

I'm thinking the 75, 90, or 115 would be plenty. If I could get the hull rated for it I'd probably stick with the 90hp Opti just to remain on the side of "reasonable"!

I've ridden in a 16ft side console fiberglass skiff with the 115hp Opti on it. That boat only had a 48" beam and was an absolute nightmare to fish out of. It ran good but at rest I had to stand dead center on the forward edge of the rear deck or we would take on water. The owner was my tournament partner in New Orleans. We got caught in some nasty weather on Lake Fork in Texas one time and I would have bet we weren't going to survive! I never rode in that skiff again after that!!

Okay, so if the 1650 Hancock is $3800 for the hull then I would figure his 17ft boat would be around $4800 at the most. Then $1800 for a decent trailer with 12" tires and another $7100 for a 90hp Opti. Hydro jackplate will be about $900. So I'm looking at roughly $14,600 for this redneck rocket! Sound about right? I've got all the other miscellaneous boating shit laying around the garage to include GPS, chartplotter, and depth sounders. Am I leaving anything out of the dream rig?

Push pole and poling platform are a waste of time! I like to catch fish to much to spend my days standing way up in the air pushing others around and watching them catch fish! You got me on the trolling motor though! MinnKota 24v 70lb thrust on the bow should do nicely and add another $800 to the bill. The extra weight up front may come in handy too.

I'm not looking for a speed record breaker, but rather something that will move me, gear, and guests along at around 50mph. That would do nicely. Unloaded on play days is a whole different ball game. That's when I could break out the Hopkins Propeller special for the fun runs!!

I imagine the PuddlePirates wouldn't mess with you ..... just show them your credentials there Admiral.

One thing I would change about your 'Wish List' ...... I would splurge for 13" trailer wheels .... especially hanging 375lb's of motor off the back of a boat (and on a jackplate).

That 375lb's is the only reason I didn't buy a new 75 Optimax for my boat. Just seemed like a lot of weight for a 16' duck boat. I figured it would not help when trying to draft shallow as well.

Yep, the 13" wheels will be added to the wish list. Might even go Aluminum on the trailer. I'm not so worried about the draft of the boat as the only time I'm in that shallow of water is when I'm on the bow running the trolling motor. I'm more worried about the weight of the motor affecting the attitude of the boat when on plane. I don't need a boat that runs around porpoising all the time!

What size is your hull and hows it run with the 70hp on it?

I bought the one in the original post from Bryan with a 70 on it and owned it for a couple years. It was a fun rig

You get that Ring King? “Decent with a 4 smoke...70 2 stroke...little better”. Looks just like in the original thread The Who’s the fastest crown has these guys talking like they’re protecting Formula 1 set up secrets.
