I saw one up close a in person tracking a deer in Barnwell last October. Panned the flashlight across the ground in a stand of pines and hollered I think we found it to my buddy. Swung the light back and that skunk was headed my way, hollered back to my buddy skunk, you gotta look for your own damn deer and headed to the truck.

A couple of years back, I ran over one with my truck in St. Matthews. I didn't immediately know what I hit but the next day I started smelling something awful. I tore my truck up thinking I had an open bottle of doe pee in the truck somewhere. I could locate or identify the smell, but knew it was damn near unbearable. Two days later was I was backtracking home from the cabin I noticed the skunk on the side of the road and determined, that's what I ran over and that's why my truck smell so bad. It took about a week or so before the smell finally started subsiding.

Newberry is. I have seen 10 dead skunks this year alone. Go to any walmart parking lot and you can smell them

Is this a new thing or have there been skunks in that area for a long time?

Plenty of skunk in Chester county. And I’ve been getting armadillo on trail cam too the last couple of years. Haven’t seen an armadillo live yet but they are there

For the last 3 years I have seen more dead than I have seen in the last 10 or better

They seem to be on the move more in the fall and so more visible. We generally get about a two week period where there is a dead skunk in the road every morning in a small area near the house. Dead Skunk I think that is a song.

I have never seen a striped skunk here, only the smaller spotted skunk which is actually a rarer species.
Had several trail camera pictures over the years and seen a couple myself, one of them very too close and personal. Also had one under the house about a year ago one of my dogs got into twice.

Saw one walk by the window of Bailey dorm at PC when I was a freshman in January-February 04. It was snowing and we were waiting for them to cancel class the next day. First time I ever saw one alive.

Seen many alive. Note they are not afraid of you and if you try to shoo them off they will actually head toward you instead of going away. Their eyesight is poor.

We've got them thick out here in California! My little female boykin absolutely hates them and tries to eat every one she sees unfortunately! We deal with the dog/skunk disaster about three times a year and it's about the worst misery that you can be stuck with!
Back on the West Coast in Northern California. Got four more years here and then I'm out in 2028!!
