    Default Beaufort/Hampton/Jasper/Colleton Gunsmith

I need a gunsmith for a Remington Model 11 (Auto5) somewhere in the Lowcountry. Beaufort, Jasper, Hampton, Colleton areas.

    Appreciate any recommendations

Good question! I’ve replaced all the internals with a kit from Art’s and I still can’t get it to eject properly. I’ve tried different loads, etc etc. I’d like to get someone to once it over for me and see what the diagnose the problem as.

There’s a gunsmith in Williams. I can’t remember his name but he’s right down from the building supply . He may be able to help.

Have you checked the spring in the butt stock? I can only assume there has to be one in there.

I’ve never taken apart or worked on an auto 5 or any of the Remington or Savage look a-likes but I own and shoot other long-recoil shotguns, one in particular being an 11-48 16 gauge. It started giving me fits rabbit hunting one morning a few years ago and the problem didn’t go away until I finally removed the spring from the butt stock and through cleaned and lubed it

Isn't the recoil spring on a Model 11 around the mag tube? Just like an A5, you have to turn the compression ring around for lighter loads.

This is an A5 Light 12 but I think the Model 11 is similar. Notice the orientation of the ring next to the spring.

Yep, they're essentially the same thing. Only noticeable difference is the Model 11 does not have mag cutoff like an Auto 5.

Sadly I have replace the rings, flipped every possible combination, tried different loads, to no avail.

they are notorious for hanging up
my old man has one he shot for a few years when he was in his early 20s. 30 years or more ago I took it on a few dove shoots and dog drives for nostalgia and it would hang up every 3-4 shots.
